Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer
Job Summary:
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering mechanical design content for water industry projects. You will collaborate with clients, as well as project managers and construction teams. There is an option to work on a remote or office hybrid basis, and will be part of the Design team.
Key Responsibilities:
Design Delivery: Develop effective concept design solutions that meet project briefs, undertaking a wide range of design work on all aspects of mechanical functions and maintenance.
Project Management: Process projects through preliminary and detailed design, emphasising client requirements and innovation, while maintaining high technical standards.
Communication: Liaise with clients to ensure their requirements are effectively communicated to the team and prepare and check engineering designs, calculations, and drawings.
Documentation: Prepare and check contract documents, scheme cost estimates, technical documents, reports, and assist in the preparation of expressions of interest and tenders.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM regulations.
Team Leadership: Supervise team members, including engineers, senior technicians, and graduate engineers, to maintain a strong focused client relationship.
Administration: Assist with contract preparation, project planning, programming, and reporting to the Project Manager.
Site Supervision: Undertake site supervision duties when required and ensure compliance with the integrated management system.
Collaboration: Support consulting in the preparation of bids and delivery of services on other contracts.
Professional Development: Complete performance appraisals and provide development opportunities for team members.Role-Specific Responsibilities:
Act as a lead engineer on projects, taking on significant design elements with minimal supervision.
Work within a team to obtain and analyse information, report on findings, and produce engineering drawings and reports.
Utilise engineering packages such as AutoCAD, Xylect, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access), and Pump Calculation software for pump selection.Requirements:
Ability to produce mechanical design drawings using AutoCAD 2D
Familiarity with pump calculation software for pump selection
Good working knowledge of sewage and clean water processes
Knowledge of pumping stations, screening packages, compactors, etc.
Ability to undertake site surveys and develop practical engineering solutions
Ability to provide innovative solutions
Basic knowledge of civil works (plinths, trenches, duct chambers) beneficial
Production of Design Hazard Risk Assessments and Pre-construction Information using Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to estimate working hours required at the beginning of a job to build a cost plan
Ability to work on numerous projects simultaneously
Strong relationship builder with excellent communication skills
