Position: Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: St Neots

Proactive currently have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to begin work for a leading food packaging manufacturer based in St Neots.

Due to rapid company expansion and an ever growing order book, our client is hoping to recruit at least one additional Maintenance Engineer to help ensure the quality and accuracy of the factory's function is well maintained throughout this new and excited influx of work.

You will be responsible for:

Collaborate with internal teams, including production, engineering, and sales, to understand project requirements and objectives.
Utilise AutoCAD Inventor to create detailed 3D models, drawings, and assemblies of sheet metal components.
Apply Radan software to generate accurate flat patterns, nests, and CNC programs for laser cutting and punching operations.
Conduct design reviews to evaluate feasibility, functionality, and adherence to customer specifications and industry standards.
Optimise designs for cost-effectiveness, material efficiency, and manufacturability while maintaining high-quality standards.
Perform design calculations and simulations to validate structural integrity, performance, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with production teams to resolve design-related issues and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Provide technical support and guidance to colleagues, ensuring effective communication and knowledge sharing.
Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to sheet metal design and manufacturing processes.
Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety standards to promote a safe and productive work environment.

Qualifications and Skills:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Proven experience in mechanical design, preferably in sheet metal manufacturing.
Proficiency in AutoCAD Inventor and Radan software.
Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes, including laser cutting, punching, bending, and welding.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and precision.
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise tasks effectively.
