Here at BJF, we have a fantastic opportunity to join our exciting and expanding construction biased business, where YOU can help support the commercial team as a mechanical and electrical services quantity surveyor.

As a Mechanical and Electrical Services Quantity Surveyor, you will play a crucial role in managing the costs and contracts associated with our MEP projects. You will work closely with the project management team to ensure that all financial aspects of the projects are in line with budgetary constraints while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance. This role demands a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders.

Working with a large portfolio of public and private sector clients, our UK based organisation comprises of several divisions including Mechanical & Electrical, Construction, Projects, Reactive, FM, Small Works and other associated trades.

Position

Cost Estimation:

Conduct accurate and detailed cost estimates for Mechanical and Electrical projects, considering materials, labour, equipment, and overhead costs.

Collaborate with project teams to gather relevant data and specifications for precise cost forecasting.

Budget Preparation:

Develop comprehensive budgets for M&E projects, ensuring alignment with client requirements and overall project goals.

Work closely with project managers to establish realistic financial targets and track against budget throughout the project lifecycle.

Tender Documentation:

Prepare tender documents, including bills of quantities, specifications, and contractual terms, ensuring clarity and compliance with project requirements.

Engage in the tender process, evaluating bids, and recommending subcontractors and suppliers based on cost-effectiveness and quality.

Contract Negotiation:

Negotiate contracts with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors, aiming to secure favourable terms and conditions for the organization.

Ensure that contract agreements align with project specifications and budget constraints.

Cost Control:

Implement effective cost control measures to monitor project expenditures and prevent budget overruns.

Regularly review and analyse project costs, identifying and addressing variations promptly.

Valuations and Progress Claims:

Prepare accurate valuations, progress claims, and final accounts for submission to clients in accordance with contractual obligations.

Collaborate with project teams to validate work completed and assess payment milestones.

Compliance:

Stay informed about relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards related to M&E projects.

Ensure all activities and documentation adhere to legal and regulatory requirements.

Reporting:

Generate timely and accurate financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Communicate cost-related information effectively to project teams, management, and clients.

Change Management:

Assess and manage changes to project scope, specifications, and costs.

Administer variations and negotiate adjustments to contracts as necessary.

Risk Management:

Identify and assess potential risks related to project costs and contractual agreements.

Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks and ensure project success.

Collaboration:

Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to achieve project goals.

Foster positive relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.

Continuous Improvement:

Stay abreast of industry trends, innovations, and best practices in M&E Quantity Surveying.

Continuously seek opportunities to enhance processes and contribute to the improvement of departmental practices

Requirements

Formal Quantity Surveying Qualifications, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with a focus on Mechanical and Electrical Services within the construction or MEP industry.

Strong knowledge of MEP systems and their associated costs.

Proficient in using Quantity Surveying software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
