MATERIALS BUYER

We are looking for someone who is passionate about UK & international procurement. You’ll be part of a small Procurement team, based at our Head Office in Huthwaite, identifying suitable suppliers and negotiating terms to ensure all products (an extensive range of engineered components and fasteners) are purchased on time and on budget to support the efficient running of the company.

To succeed in this role you’ll need to be a skilled negotiator, good at managing projects, being proactive and a real team player.

The position is permanent, full-time (37 hours), with an option to be home-based one day per week. Some UK and international travel will be required from time to time.

Key responsibilities:

· Procurement - ensuring continuity of supply of all required products by placing and expediting purchase orders in line with business demands. Negotiating deals that achieve optimum balance between cost price, quality, availability & lead times - allowing for factors including import and transportation costs/timescales. Where products are specified i.e. for automotive clients - liaise with suppliers to ensure reliable supply.

· Project Management - taking on strategic projects, including tendering and benchmarking of specific categories

· Demand forecasting - regular interrogation of MRP system to review stock re-ordering requirements. Working closely with Sales and Customer Service to ensure stock levels reflect forward orders, taking account of product lead times. 

· Suppliers – sourcing new suppliers as and when required, to ensure best options balancing price with service to achieve best overall value for money. Building and maintaining good relationships with key suppliers; monitoring performance and resolving issues.

· Quality - supporting the internal Quality team to resolve issues identified i.e. through Purchasing non- conformances and customer complaints. 

· Research & Development – working closely with Sales to support the sourcing and integration of new products, materials, components and services. 

· Administration - maintaining accurate records on the management system, enabling the generation of reports and data analysis. Working closely with colleagues in the Warehouse and Purchase Ledger to resolve issues i.e. with stock levels and invoicing

· Health & Safety - to comply with all Company rules and standards including Personal Protective Equipment, safe walkways, etc. - attending training where required. To take reasonable care and use common sense to keep self and others safe

Skills & Knowledge:

· Negotiation skills

· Problem-solving skills including manual calculations

· Ability to identify and deliver improvements and have a right first-time approach

· Ability to prioritise workload and work effectively under pressure

· Ability to read basic technical drawings (useful not essential)

· Clear communication style with the ability to partner with all levels of the business

· Excellent attention to detail - processing repetitive high-volume data

· Microsoft Office (advanced Excel skills)

· CIPS qualification (advantageous)

· German or Chinese language skills (advantageous)

Experience:

Essential:

· Supply Chain/Purchasing background

· Demonstrable experience of achieving cost reductions

· Have experience of negotiating with a broad portfolio of suppliers

Preferred:

· Similar industry experience

Working at JET PRESS:

Office hours: 8.30am–5.00pm Monday-Thursday & 8.30am–3.15pm Friday

Based at our Head Office: Nunn Close, Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire NG17 2HW
