Markets Operative
Location: Markets within Walsall Borough
Rate: £14.14 per hour PAYE
Contract: Temporary, 3 months with potential to extend
Potential for Permanent Opportunities to become available while on temporary placement
Start Date: ASAP
Opus People Solutions are pleased to be recruiting for a Markets Operative on behalf of Walsall Council. This is an excellent opportunity for a hardworking and reliable individual to join the Markets Team, supporting the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and presentation of markets across the borough.
This role involves a variety of outdoor, hands-on duties and requires candidates who are comfortable undertaking physical work in all weather conditions.
Working Hours
7 hours per week - Wednesdays only.Split shifts with an unpaid break between shifts
AM Shift: 4:00am - 8:00am
PM Shift: 2:00pm - 5:00pm
Unsocial hours enhancement applicable for hours worked before 6:00am.
Weekly rotas will be provided directly by Walsall CouncilKey Responsibilities
Setting up and dismantling market stalls
Moving and positioning bins across market sites
Litter picking and maintaining clean market environments
Engaging professionally with market traders and members of the public
Reporting issues and updates to the Team Leader and Market Operational Manager
Spreading grit and rock salt during icy weather conditions
Supporting the upkeep of market infrastructure
Cleaning stalls, bins, compounds and communal areas
Carrying out basic weeding and general site maintenance
Assisting with the smooth operation of market activitiesEssential Skills & Experience
Previous experience undertaking manual or physical work
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and temperatures
Full UK Driving Licence and access to your own vehicle for travel to and from the market site
Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
Good communication and customer service skills
Confidence when engaging with traders and members of the public
Ability to represent Walsall Council professionally
Ability to use basic hand tools and equipment
Reliable, flexible and willing to undertake early morning starts
