Manufacturing Engineer - AIT

Stockport | £45,000–£55,000 | Permanent | Days

A specialist engineering manufacturer is looking to recruit a Manufacturing Engineer to support a large‑scale vehicle assembly programme.

The role focuses on developing and improving assembly, integration and test processes, working closely with production and engineering teams to ensure builds are efficient, repeatable and fit for purpose.

The role

You’ll be involved in shaping manufacturing processes from early stages through to production, with a mix of shop‑floor support and process development. Key responsibilities include:

Developing Assembly, Integration and Test processes for vehicle build programmes

Transferring knowledge from existing production lines into new manufacturing environments

Acting as a point of contact on the shop floor for process, tooling and build queries

Leading root cause investigations and driving practical process improvements

Supporting production ramp‑up activities and resolving build issues

Driving continuous improvement through lean methods, line balancing and waste reduction

Supporting design teams with Design for Manufacture input

Producing SOPs, work instructions and process documentation

Supporting BOM structuring from drawing through to manufacture

Working closely with production and project teams during build phases

Ensuring compliance with health, safety and quality requirements

What you’ll need

HND, degree or apprenticeship in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering

Background in a technical or industrial manufacturing environment

Experience improving processes and supporting production activity

Understanding of engineering change and manufacturing documentation

Ability to work from drawings through to production build

Strong problem‑solving skills with a practical, hands‑on approach

Comfortable working across production, engineering and project teams

Basic IT skills, with experience of MES or similar systems
Desirable

Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems

Exposure to vehicle assembly or similar complex builds
