An established global engineering and manufacturing business is looking to recruit an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join its Manchester operation.

This is not a graduate or entry-level position. The business already has a Graduate Manufacturing Engineer in place and now requires someone with sufficient industry experience to work independently, provide practical technical support and help drive improvements across the manufacturing facility.

The Role

Reporting to the Quality Assurance and Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and improving manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, reduce costs and improve production performance.

You will work closely with production, quality, design, procurement and supply chain teams to resolve manufacturing issues and deliver continuous improvement projects.

Key responsibilities will include:

Developing, evaluating and improving manufacturing processes

Reviewing production workflows and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency

Designing and implementing process flows and manufacturing layouts

Providing hands-on technical support to production teams

Troubleshooting manufacturing issues and implementing practical solutions

Supporting the specification, selection and installation of new manufacturing equipment

Improving existing production and testing equipment

Working with automated equipment, manual manufacturing processes and test cells

Designing and procuring manufacturing fixtures, jigs and tooling

Identifying and delivering manufacturing cost-reduction initiatives

Reviewing opportunities to manufacture components in-house or outsource sub-assemblies

Applying lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles

Producing work instructions, standard operating procedures and process flow documentation

Ensuring process changes are accurately documented

Training production employees on new equipment and manufacturing processes

Ensuring processes comply with health, safety and environmental requirements

About You

The successful candidate will be an experienced Manufacturing Engineer or Process Engineer who is comfortable working independently within a busy production environment.

You should have:

Several years of experience in manufacturing engineering, process engineering or a similar role

Experience working within an engineering or industrial manufacturing environment

Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, production equipment and engineering materials

A practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving

Experience delivering process improvements and cost-reduction projects

Knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies

Experience producing SOPs, work instructions and manufacturing documentation

Experience using CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD

Strong root-cause analysis and troubleshooting skills

Good project management and organisational abilities

Knowledge of ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems

The confidence to work directly with production teams and senior stakeholders

Permanent right to work in the UK

A degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline would be beneficial.

Experience involving pumps, rotating equipment, test cells, automation or fluid-flow products would also be advantageous.
