Cawder Golf Club in Bishopbriggs is one of the top golf clubs in the Glasgow area with two eighteen-hole courses providing an excellent facility for our members and visitors.

A vacancy has now arisen at the Club for a Managing Secretary who will play a pivotal leadership role in both the strategic and operational running of Cawder Golf Club. This is a new role which reflects the changes to the organisational structure within the Club.

Position:

Golf Club Managing Secretary. This will be based in the office at the Club.

Main Purpose of Job:

To lead the staff and act as the principal liaison, through the committee with the members to ensure that Cawder Golf Club maintains and enhances its position as one of the top golf clubs in the Glasgow Area.

This will require the successful candidate to lead the Club in increasing membership, building visitor income, enhancing the membership experience and managing all internal and external management teams.

The Managing Secretary will be expected to achieve this using their own skills and experience and by leading the team at the club including, greens/course, accounts, administration and maintenance and by ensuring that external functions such as catering operate seamlessly within the Club.

Liaison:

You will have regular contact with the members, the department heads and the Club’s Committee Members. You will report directly to the Club Committee led by the Club Captain.

Salary:

The salary for this position will be £24,000 based upon 18 hours/week

Position availability:

This is a part time position. Contractual hours are 18 hours per week. The successful candidate will also receive ‘freedom of the course’ rights if requested. This allows full access to course bookings and competitions but does not include all membership rights.

• Normal attendance will be agreed with the successful candidate and can be split into several half days, full days or a combination. Ideally, the successful candidate will attend the Club for four hours each weekend to maximise the amount of interaction with members. There is the opportunity to flex this to the mutual benefit of the Club and candidate.

• Flexibility in working arrangements will be required particularly at a time of major competitions and events such as fee collection etc.

• Equally, personal flexibility will be considered in line with good employment practice.

Main Job Scope:

• Lead the employees and act as the principal conduit between them and the members of the Club and Committee.

• Ensure that all the Club’s functions (greens, house, admin, finance, professional) act as a coordinated group under the leadership of the Managing Secretary.

• Provide input to the Club’s strategy including functional knowledge/guidance to the committee who often do not have the breadth of knowledge in the golf industry.

• Identify best practice and operational improvements to maximise member benefits and efficiencies in support systems.

• Manage and operate Club’s core management system, Club V1.

• Responsibility for the Club’s position and requirements in relation to the FCA, HMRC, VAT (recoverable and irrecoverable) PAYE, Energy Payments in relation to the Club’s Biomass.

• Maintain logs of the Club’s current policies, operational contracts together with their respective renewal dates so that everything is kept fully up-to-date.

• Responsibility for all legal compliances within the Club ensuring employment, health, safety and environmental and including interaction with landlords and tenants.

The Candidate:

• Manage and operate Club’s core management system, Club V1.

• Able to learn and develop and work to improve the Club’s systems.

• Must have a good knowledge of social media platforms and using social media. Able to update the Club’s website.

• Should have a structured approach to handling tasks and be able to handle multiple queries simultaneously.

• Approachable with good communication skills and a good standard of spoken and written English.

• Have a basic understanding of the sport of golf.

• Must have good IT skills and full knowledge of MS Office.
