Description:

The Managing Director of Apprenticeships and Skills will play a key strategic role in contributing to the delivery of HRUC’s 2030 Strategic Vision.
Leading on the HRUC ambitious programme of apprenticeship growth to position HRUC as a premier provider of apprenticeships across key industry sectors. This position will oversee both the strategic and operational aspects of the apprenticeship portfolio, ensuring exceptional quality delivery, and an outstanding learner experience in alignment with the College Group’s growth plans. Reporting directly to the Chief of Business Strategy, the Managing Director of Apprenticeships and Skills will collaborate effectively with various College departments as relevant to drive growth and high-quality provision.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership
1. Strategic Planning: Plan, develop, organise, implement, direct, and evaluate the organisation’s strategic and operational delivery position and performance. (Working in conjunction with the Chief of Business Strategy, lead on the development and implementation of strategies and plans to drive the delivery and quality of employer services and partnerships to optimise the provision)
2. Strategic Modelling; implement an effective model of delivery that encompasses the employer and learner journey (Ensuring the sales, recruitment, product development, delivery, quality assurance are effective and meets the requirements
3. Operational Leadership: Provide operational leadership across the provision, managing volume and financial targets for operational services. (Leadership across the college group)
4. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other managers/stakeholders within the college group to deliver and develop a cohesive portfolio of services. (Work collaboratively with other senior leaders to ensure the successful introduction of new working practices and methods)
5. Team Leadership: Evaluate the provision’s structure and team plans for continual improvement. Provide motivational leadership to ensure all staff achieve their performance objectives managing team performance through appraisals and KPI reviews. (Ensure all colleagues are skilled, competent and perform well)
6. Systems Development: Establish appropriate systems to monitor performance and quality of programs, supporting continuous improvement. (Ensure appropriate systems are in place to monitor the performance and quality of the programs and support continuous improvement)

Delivery and Quality Assurance
1. Performance Management: Drive and monitor performance across apprenticeship delivery, setting and monitoring targets to achieve positive KPIs. (Responsible for: Apprenticeships, Employer Training, Commercial Development, Employer Partnerships, Economic regeneration partnerships, FE and Skills sector partnerships)
2. Delivery Model Design: Design delivery models to maintain quality and viability, meeting both employer and learner needs. (Design delivery models to ensure quality and viability are maintained and meet both employer and learner needs)
3. Quality Assurance: Lead the team in conducting and evaluating the quality of provision, identifying necessary changes. (Lead the team in conducting and evaluating the quality of provision and identify any necessary changes)

Business Development
1. Business Planning: Develop, and review annually, a business growth plan that meets, local, regional economic needs. (Ensure the provision optimises growth opportunities)
2. Business Development: Support the preparation of group responses to invitations to tender and other sales opportunities. (Secure new revenue streams generating income and operating surpluses in line with an annual business plan)

Qualifications and Experience:
Appropriate higher level qualification.
Recognized teaching qualification.
Recognized management qualification.
Substantial and successful experience of leading the development and delivery of a commercialised apprenticeship provision, encompassing oversight of sales, program design, and delivery dimensions.
Proven track record with respect to achieving quality outcomes in the delivery of apprenticeship provision based on QAR outcomes and also feedback from employers and trainees.
Proven experience of working successfully with employers in the promotion and delivery of broader aspects of learning and training.
Proven success of overseeing the development and delivery of training related contracts, including meeting sales targets.
Experience of working on the employment and skills agenda in a partnership context.
Proven experience of working successfully with employers or with appropriate employer representative organizations.
Experience and understanding of CRM systems, and the priorities that a CRM system should address effectively.
Proven successful budget management experience.
Successful experience of developing and implementing sales and marketing strategies.
Experience of ambassadorial work, representing an organization with stakeholders.
