Description:
The OSP Group are looking for an experienced machine shop manager to join our busy manufacturing client based on the outskirts of Colchester, Essex on a permanent basis. The ideal candidate will have both managerial experience within a machine shop and be looking for a long term career within a established local business who work with high end names within the retail industry.
As machine shop manager you will be managing a team of machinists meaning that previous man management experience would be essential due to the fast paced nature of this position. You will also oversee however not directly manage a team of 5.
Daily duties will include:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the department, including scheduling, prioritising, and delegating tasks to meet production goals.
- Job planning
- Material cutting and utilisation
- Manual machining, Turning and Milling
- Preparing Producing quality, precision machined components
- Identifying the most efficient, cost effective tooling/programming solutions
- Interpreting engineering drawings to manufacture components within set tolerances
- Offline programming
- CNC programming Siemens, Protrak
- Supervise and lead a team of machinists, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback as needed.
- Overall management of the department.
- Programming of CNC machines for new parts.
- Overseeing development of new parts and documenting processing parameters.
- Managing stocks of cutting tools and other key consumables and requesting supplies as required.
- Develop and maintain documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures, and equipment manuals
- Carrying out staff appraisals, supervisions and return to work meetings.
- Carrying out spot checks to ensure quality levels.
- Monitor and maintain high standards of housekeeping, cleaning of machines according to manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Organising repairs/servicing of machines.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Strong working history in manufacturing is necessary.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and manuals
- Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Leadership qualities, including the ability to motivate and develop team members.
- A high level of computer literacy – CAD, Word, Excel and manufacturing systems etc.
- Produce precision parts in volume across various metals.
- Produce parts from raw castings, billet and bar feed.
- Cutting tools, measuring instruments, and other ancillary equipment.
- Basic level understanding of G-Code
- Good knowledge of creating jigs and fixtures.
- Basic understanding of machine workings i.e. sensors, pneumatics, hydraulics etc.
- Ability to prioritise tasks, solve problems, and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Rate of pay:
£45,000 - £50,000

Monday to Friday
09:00 - 17:30
