About the role

We are recruiting for Machine Operators to ensure efficient daily operation of machines including Pro Seal, BBC Blueberry Grader, Unitec Grader and the Robots on our production lines to pack soft fruit such as strawberries, blueberries and raspberries according to customer specification. The postholder will also be required to work closely with the maintenance team to ensure any maintenance issues cause minimum disruption, responsible for smooth tool changeovers and setting up packaging materials. In addition, the postholder will ensure their team members are trained appropriately and will be suitably motivated to meet KPIs.

About you

You will have proven experience of packhouse production and be able to develop and maintain effective internal and external stakeholder relationships. With the ability to prioritise own and others’ workload, effective verbal and written communication skills in a multilingual environment, you will also be a team player.

Reporting to: Team Leader

Hours: Guaranteed minimum of 32 hours over 4 days per week to include one day at the weekend, variable working patterns available, will be discussed on the interview stage.

Location: Orchard Farm, School Road, Salford Priors

Main duties and responsibilities

* To ensure all line personnel adhere to food hygiene and health and safety policies and procedures.

* To be responsible for effective running of all production lines including Pro Seal, BBC Blueberry Grader, Unitec Grader and the Robots

* To ensure smooth operation of multiple lines

* To conduct morning and end of shift checks for the production line, ensuring all equipment and machinery are in proper working order before the start of operations.

* To perform regular glass inspections to identify and remove any potential contaminants from the production line, ensuring product safety and quality.

* To collect packaging materials from the Labelroom and return unused materials at the end of each job run.

* To set up packaging materials and supplies on the production line, ensuring they are readily available for the packing process.

* To complete tool changeovers, coordinating with the maintenance team to ensure smooth transitions between product runs and minimizing downtime.

* To collaborate closely with the maintenance team to address any issues or maintenance requirements promptly, ensuring uninterrupted line operations and minimal disruptions to production.

* To collaborate with the production team to implement process improvements and best practices, aiming for continuous improvement and increased efficiency.

* To participate in achieving Line Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), working collaboratively with the production team to meet or exceed set targets.

* To ensure that lines are cleaned regularly and closed down properly at the end of each shift when not in used.

* To fully participate in the development and achievement of the Packhouse Vision

* To undertake any other duty commensurate with the role

Essential criteria

* Proven pack house production experience

* Experience in management of workplace health and safety

* Effective verbal and written communication skills

* Ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external stakeholder relationships.

* Attention to detail and accuracy

* Ability to prioritise own and others’ workload

* Ability to use initiative and work as part of a team
