Job Description - Learning Support Assistant (SEN)

Reports to: SENDCo / Inclusion Manager

Purpose of the Role

To support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to access the curriculum, develop independence and achieve their full potential. The Learning Support Assistant will work closely with teachers and the SEND team to provide high-quality support in the classroom and through targeted interventions.

Key Responsibilities

Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEND, including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Support students in lessons to access learning and make progress across the curriculum.
Adapt support strategies to meet individual learning, communication and emotional needs.
Promote students' independence, confidence and inclusion within the school community.
Deliver targeted interventions under the direction of the SENDCo or teaching staff.
Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and the SEND team.
Work collaboratively with teachers, parents/carers and external professionals to support student outcomes.
Maintain high standards of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional conduct.
Attend training, review meetings and professional development activities as required.

Person Specification

Essential

Experience of working with children or young people, preferably in a school setting.
Understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Good communication, literacy and numeracy skills.
Patient, flexible and empathetic approach.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and use initiative when appropriate.Desirable

Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
Experience supporting students with autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, dyslexia or social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
Knowledge of EHCPs and inclusive classroom practices.

Safeguarding

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be required to complete an Enhanced DBS check and comply with all safeguarding and child protection procedures
