Locum Band 7/8 Psychological Therapist - Trauma Therapy Specialist
Older Adults Community Mental Health Team
* £50-£55 per hour
* Newtown, Powys, Wales
* 30 hours per week
* Hybrid, at least 1 day per week on site
* 3-month contract (to be extended thereafter)
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Band 7/8 Psychological Therapist specializing in trauma therapy to join an Older Adults Community Mental Health Team.
As a Trauma Therapy Specialist, you will provide evidence-based psychological interventions to older adults who have experienced trauma, with a focus on promoting recovery, resilience, and improved mental well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conducting comprehensive assessments of older adults referred to the service, with a particular focus on identifying trauma-related symptoms and difficulties.
* Developing and implementing individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings, utilizing trauma-focused interventions and evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
* Providing trauma-focused therapy to clients, including but not limited to trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy (TF-CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), narrative exposure therapy (NET), and other relevant modalities.
* Collaborating closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and occupational therapists, to ensure integrated and holistic care for clients.
* Providing consultation, guidance, and support to colleagues within the team regarding trauma-related issues and complex cases.
* Conducting risk assessments and implementing appropriate risk management strategies in collaboration with the wider team.
* Maintaining accurate and up-to-date clinical records, including assessment reports, treatment plans, progress notes, and outcome measures.
* Participating in clinical supervision, case discussions, and team meetings to enhance professional development and ensure high-quality care delivery.
* Engaging in continuous professional development activities to stay abreast of current research and best practices in trauma therapy and older adult mental health.
* Contributing to service development initiatives, quality improvement projects, and research activities as appropriate.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Professional qualification in clinical psychology, counselling psychology, cognitive behavioural therapy or psychotherapy, with eligibility for registration with the relevant regulatory body (e.g., HCPC, BACP, BABCP).
* Substantial post-qualification experience working as a psychological therapist, with specific expertise in trauma therapy.
* Completion of accredited training in trauma-focused interventions (e.g., TF-CBT, EMDR) is essential.
* Experience working with older adults and an understanding of the unique challenges and needs of this population.
* Strong clinical assessment and formulation skills, with the ability to conceptualize cases from a trauma-informed perspective.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build therapeutic alliances and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
* Commitment to providing culturally sensitive and inclusive care to clients from diverse backgrounds.
* Ability to work autonomously and manage a complex caseload while adhering to professional and ethical guidelines.
