One of our local authority clients are currently recruiting for a Litigation/Prosecution Lawyer. This is a temporary contract for 2 months with possible further extension based on budget and performance.

Main Purpose of Post/Job Summary

The post holder will be required to improve the educational outcomes of children looked after by the council. They will also participate in the implementation and development of the relevant government / Department for Education (DfE) guidance regarding the education of looked after children, previously looked after children and children with a social worker. They will need to effectively identify the needs of children with a social worker and ensure they can access interventions that make a difference to their education.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Manage a varied caseload including property litigation, highways and general civil litigation, including debt recovery and judicial review proceedings.

* Respond to requests for advice, representation etc, from Council employees.

* Manage all aspects of court representation as required.

* Advise and/or present to courts, meetings, members at formal appeal hearings or as required by the County Solicitor

* Assume a lead role in advising clients on specialist aspects of law and practice as required, e.g. Procurement, Employment, Human Rights, Childcare, Adult Social Care, Property and to organise/participate in training events as appropriate and/or necessary.
