About the Role:
Join Dorset Council's Legal & Political team as a Litigation Solicitor. We are seeking an experienced legal professional to provide comprehensive legal services to the Council, its Directorates, and external bodies. As part of the team, you will contribute to ensuring legality and propriety in all Council matters, playing a crucial role in upholding the law and protecting the interests of our community.
What is the day-to-day of the role:
· Advise and represent the Council and its Directorates on legal matters.
· Support Legal Business Partners and collaborate with colleagues.
· Provide legal services including advice, drafting, negotiation and advocacy.
· Conduct litigation work including court appearances and advocacy.
· Represent the Head of Legal Services at meetings and committees.
· Secure external legal services when required.
· Stay updated on case law and legislative changes.
· Reply to Ombudsman complaints and assist in training seminars.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
· Qualified Lawyer, Barrister, or Legal Executive.
· Degree-level education.
· Post-qualification experience in relevant practice areas.
· Knowledge of local government law.
· Strong communication, negotiation, and research skills.
· Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
· Understanding of equal opportunities and diversity principles.
