Literacy Specialist Advanced Teaching Assistant
Location: North Yorkshire
Start Date: September 2024
Salary: £83 – £100 per day
Contract Type: Part Time and Full Time both considered

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? Do you have experience supporting students with special educational needs? If so, GSL Education want you to join our dedicated team as an Advanced Teaching Assistant, with a specialism of Literacy. We are looking for candidates to start in September 2024, with supply opportunities available until July 2024.This position is ideal for English Degree Graduates, Key Stage 2 Teaching Assistants with experience delivering interventions, or Higher-Level Teaching Assistants.

About the School:

The school is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school with students aged 11-18.
Every class at the secondary school offers a variety of interesting, captivating, and challenging teaching and learning opportunities, reinforced by a number of extracurricular activities and a good rapport between teachers and students.
A committed group of pastoral staff members work in all Key Stages of the school.
Additionally, the school strives to be both demanding and encouraging so that each person is constantly pushed to reach their full potential.
Literacy Specialist Advanced Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

Assist in planning and delivering literacy interventions and activities to support students' reading, writing, and comprehension skills.
Provide one-to-one or small group support to students who need additional help with literacy, tailoring approaches to meet individual learning need.
Work alongside teachers in the classroom to support literacy instruction, helping to manage resources and support students during lessons.
Prepare and organize literacy materials and resources for use in lessons and interventions.
Participate in training and professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in literacy education.
Supervising students during activities, ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
Contributing to the overall school community through active participation.
Literacy Specialist Advanced Teaching Assistant Requirements:

Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or higher. Additional certifications in literacy support are advantageous.
Proven experience working as an Advanced or Higher-Level Teaching Assistant, preferably with a focus on literacy in an upper Key Stage 2 or secondary school setting.
Strong understanding of effective literacy teaching methods and intervention strategies.
Strong organisational skills to manage resources, plan interventions, and maintain accurate records.
Ability to adapt and work collaboratively in a dynamic educational environment.
Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and strategies for supporting students with SEN.
Hold an Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for a new one.
