Our client is a leading engineering and construction business operating across the UK and Ireland
About The Opportunity
Due to a significant workload they now have a requirement for a Contract/Legal Specialist Construction to be part of the work winning team based in my clients’ offices in North London.
As Contract/Legal Specialist you will advise the business on managing their contractual risks effectively. Partnering with the work-winning team, Senior stakeholders and their clients, the Contract Specialist will analyse, advise on and negotiate the contractual terms of tenders to mitigate risk
This role can be based from either their North London or Milton Keynes regional offices, supporting either their London & South East or Midlands regions.
They support hybrid working, with 2-3 days a week in the office encouraged. Regional travel to sites/client meetings will also form part of this role
Key Responsibilities:
Review and co-ordinate the contract terms and conditions contained in the ITT documentation to identify:
Terms which are not acceptable to the business
Alterations that need to be made to the terms to make them acceptable
Risks included in the terms that need to be identified for pricing and operational purposes
Items that need to be priced and would not be identified in the scope of works
Any other matters that are relevant and affect risk or price
Co-ordinate closely with the work winning team to understand the scope of works and use this information to assess the risks on individual projects
Liaise with Clients and their representatives to negotiate and conclude contractual discussions
Understand commercial issues to manage business requirements and needs
Review wording of Parent Company Guarantees, collateral warranties and bonds (performance, retention bonds, etc) and facilitate the execution of the required documents
Create a tabulated report that clearly identifies the matters listed in items a) to e) above
Checking of contract documents once a contract is awarded and ensuring that they are correct
Familiarise the site teams with the rights and obligations under the contract once it has been awarded
Provide contractual advice when required in respect of sub-contract, contract and commercial matters including additional entitlements
Data analysis and presentation of regional tender and project information
Administration and document control of all contract documents
The Individual
Technical Skills and Experience
A professional qualification or degree in construction, quantity surveying or law
Contractual and commercial experience gained with a civil engineering contractor
Detailed knowledge of the standard forms of contract (JCT, NEC and ICC suite of contracts)
Negotiation skills within contractual environments
Demonstrated ability with drafting and presenting contractual amendments and claims
