Are you a qualified solicitor who is looking to gain valuable, commercial experience within a FTSE 100 organisation? Join Howden Joinery as a Legal Counsel based at our office in Raunds, Northamptonshire. This is a 12-month fixed term contract providing maternity cover. Working as part of a small team, you will be providing comprehensive commercial advice to various divisions within Howdens, ensuring all commercial contracts are efficiently and effectively managed.
As a Legal Counsel, you will help the business to maximise profit through effective contract management and the provision of practical legal advice, whilst minimising potential legal costs, fines, and brand devaluation. This would be a great opportunity for someone looking for their first in-house legal role.
What will I be doing as a Legal Counsel?
• Drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts.
• Pro-actively managing commercial contracts and engaging with stakeholders.
• Managing the business’s intellectual property portfolio and advising the business aspects of brand management.
• Assisting with data protection queries and raising awareness of data protection matters within the business, particularly in relation to commercial contracts.
• Providing accurate and timely legal advice on a range of ad hoc queries.
• Maintaining current knowledge of relevant legislative changes and keeping the business up to date.
What do I need to qualify for this Legal Counsel role?
• Qualified solicitor with at least 1 - 2 years PQE, or equivalent relevant experience
• Self-starter able to identify and exploit creative solutions that demonstrably assist the business in delivering its business outcomes.
• Ability to build lasting and effective relationships, be seen as a trusted counsellor, and have integrity and a straight-forward approach.
• Experience of working in a fast paced, complex, multi-site business.
• Ability to work on own initiative, planning and monitoring progress of workloads and meeting deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and commercial acumen.
• Organised and able to adapt to an ever-changing environment with conflicting commercial needs.
• Strong influencing skills required in an autonomous and decentralised business.
