Equans UK&I has an exciting opportunity for a Legal Counsel within its Digital and Energy Services (“DES”) division. DES is a division of Equans which offers fully integrated digital and energy solutions for our customers including embedded energy, energy solutions (in particular solar and hydrogen), energy and carbon consulting, connected cities, electric vehicle charging and smart buildings solutions.

This role reports directly into the Head of Legal for the DES division. You will also work closely with the DES legal and business teams especially business development, commercial and senior management and externally with counterparty legal advisers, Equans external legal advisers, contract counterparties and customers.

What will you deliver?

* Providing commercially focused legal advice on a broad range of projects ensuring compliance with applicable law.

* Reviewing, negotiating and/or drafting agreements and conducting contract negotiations with project counterparties including development, construction, O&M, financing, offtake, joint venture and SaaS agreements for a wide range of projects

* Supporting on commercial and contractual matters for tenders, projects, variations and on-going contractual and operational matters.

* Assisting on the governance of transactions at local and Equans’ group level.

* Working closely with colleagues throughout the Equans’ group and with customers.

* Managing external legal resource as required.

* Assisting in developing and delivering training on legal matters for colleagues across the Equans’ business.

Who are we looking for?

* UK (or common law equivalent) qualified solicitor or barrister Experience in both private practice and in-house roles preferred but not essential

* We will be flexible depending on the quality of experience

* Understanding of the contractual framework surrounding energy projects in particular renewables within the UK energy market.

* Experience of energy projects preferred. Experience in or familiarity with hydrogen projects would be useful.

* Experience of or a keen interest in new and evolving technologies and digital transformation.

* Experience of negotiating bespoke construction and O&M agreements and also agreements based on industry standard forms in particular the JCT suite of contracts, NEC, FIDIC and IChemE
