Our client, is seeking a dedicated Legal Assistant to join their established Care Team. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a supportive and professional firm that is committed to delivering outstanding legal services to families and individuals involved in care proceedings.
Candidates with previous experience in Child Care/Public Law are highly desirable. Experience within Family or Divorce Law will also be considered, as this provides valuable transferable knowledge.
The Role
As a Legal Assistant within the Care Team, you'll play a key role in supporting solicitors with a varied caseload, ensuring matters progress efficiently while providing a compassionate service to clients during challenging times.
Key Responsibilities
Monitoring and managing the urgent inbox, prioritising court orders, emergency applications and time-sensitive correspondence from local authorities and other professionals.
Preparing and submitting Legal Aid applications.
Managing Legal Aid administration, including uploading mandatory documents, funding requests and case updates via the Client and Cost Management System (CCMS).
Electronic diary management and scheduling appointments.
Accurate time recording.
Scanning and uploading incoming post and legal documents onto the case management system.
Liaising with independent social workers, psychologists, medical experts and other professionals to coordinate reports and formal instructions.
Preparing, indexing and paginating electronic court bundles using software such as BundleDocs.
Opening new client files and carrying out conflict checks in line with firm procedures.
Preparing completed matters for final billing and file closure.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
At least one year's experience working within childcare/public law matters.
Previous experience in a legal assistant or legal secretary role.
Excellent IT skills with fast and accurate typing ability.
Experience with Legal Aid applications and billing procedures.
Knowledge of care proceedings, court processes and electronic court bundles.
Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
A professional, empathetic and compassionate approach when dealing with vulnerable clients.
The ability to prioritise a busy workload and work effectively as part of a team.
A genuine commitment to providing exceptional client care.
