Description:

Lecturer in Building Services Engineering (Mechanical &/or Electrical Design)

Permanent

Location: Yorkshire and the Humber

Salary: £45,000 per annum

Are you an experienced building services professional looking to bring your mechanical or electrical design expertise into the classroom?

About the Role

You'll join a further education provider delivering building services engineering programmes, helping learners develop the technical knowledge and practical skills needed for careers in mechanical or electrical design. This is a permanent role, starting in October 2026, suited to someone who wants to pass on real industry experience to the next generation of engineers.

You'll plan and deliver engaging lessons across relevant qualifications, support learners through practical and theoretical assessments, and help shape a curriculum that reflects current industry standards and practice.

Your responsibilities will include:

Planning and delivering lessons covering mechanical and/or electrical building services design.

Assessing learner progress and providing constructive, timely feedback.

Preparing learners for practical assessments and examinations.

Maintaining links with industry to ensure teaching reflects current sector standards.

Supporting learners' wider development, including behaviour, attendance and progression.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

Significant industry experience in mechanical and/or electrical building services design

Strong technical knowledge relevant to building services engineering

Good communication skills and the ability to engage learners of varying abilities

Desirable (but not essential):

A teaching qualification (PGCE, DTLLS, or equivalent)

Experience teaching or training in a further education setting

Relevant industry qualifications or professional body membership

If you don't currently hold a teaching qualification, this need not be a barrier — full training and support can be provided to help you make the transition from industry into teaching.

If you're ready to bring your building services expertise into a rewarding teaching career, we'd love to hear from you.
