GSL Education are seeking a Learning Support Assistants to work at a Special Educational Needs School located in York, North Yorkshire, starting in September 2024. You will be working with a small group of Primary-aged students, providing social, emotional and academic support.

Learning Support Assistant Responsibilities:

Supporting primary students with a range of special educational needs, including autism, learning difficulties, speech, language, and communication needs and social, emotional, and mental health needs.
Promoting independence where possible, supporting life skills such as cooking and everyday finances.
Working with the class teachers to develop sensory, speech, language, and communication needs.
Managing behaviours within the classroom and being aware of triggers, using de-escalation techniques. 
Assisting with personal care needs as and when appropriate.
Learning Support Assistant Requirements:

Hold a Level 2 qualification or higher, such as an NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care.
Have at least 6 months experience supporting children or young people with additional needs in a care of school setting.
Be a strong and engaging communicator.
Be compassionate, caring, and have a genuine desire to help young people overcome their barriers.
Hold a DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
