Up to £50k DOE

LYDNEY

8-4pm Mon - Friday with Duty cover every 8 weeks over the weekend (4 hours each day and returned in lieu)

MDE are recruiting for a LEAD Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a fast paced manufacturing facility in the beautiful Forest of Dean. 

You will be supporting the manufacturing funtion to minimise downtime and increase reliability/productivity whilst adhering to the strictest of H&S standards in a highly challenging environment where you will be responsible for controlling work orders, resource management, purchasing with some hands on when required for both plant and facilities

PURPOSE OF JOB

Provide the technical support and leadership necessary to direct, lead and support a skilled team providing a mechanical and preventative maintenance service to the relevant department functions of the plant, which will enable the department to operate at a level of availability and performance within agreed standards.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Determine and allocate the engineering resources and materials, ensuring planned maintenance and inspections, planned, scheduled and executed to meet statutory, quality and engineering requirements.
Responsible for SAP accuracy of confirmations, work orders and maintenance backlog management in order to deliver operational and engineering requirements of the Plant.  This must be achieved in line with the maintenance and reliability framework, utilising the relevant processes in order to optimise and improve the plant's availability for production.
Provide mechanical expertise and leadership to the day mechanical team and shift fitters to address maintenance reliability and improvements, driving daily results.
Responsible for driving the MDI SQDC meetings for area of responsibility, developing and coordinating plans to react to the Plant priorities and actions developed over a 24hour period
Ensure this is communicated across the team and allocation of resources to achieve the plan.
To lead and co-ordinate investigations, identify root cause and implement solutions to any problems occurring within the area of responsibility.
Engage in the development and failure reduction activities, driving route cause and problem solving to continuously improve unplanned engineering downtime.
Responsible for compliance regarding thorough conscientious reporting of plant breakdowns and history to demonstrate statutory obligations are being fulfilled. Liaise with maintenance planner and control backlog of work orders.
To ensure that mechanical personnel and contractors operate within and comply with Company policy and statuary Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
To ensure safety standards in the Plant are maintained and safe working procedures are implemented and adhered.
To clearly implement and demonstrate the required approach to process safety requirements in the area of responsibility, including the Management of Change and dynamic risk assessments.
Organise and control contractors providing both on and off site maintenance and services, refurbishment and modifications. 
Ensure that such contractors are competent and are adequately informed of the job requirements; arrange permits to work, RAMs are in place and to ensure such requirements are adhered to.
To monitor KPIs for the area of responsibility, identify any deviation from target and implement corrective action at the appropriate level, to include coaching of Mechanical Craftsmen to achieve these aims.
To perform the role of Duty Engineer having sole responsibility for all engineering aspects within the Engineering department, on a weekend rota.

REQUIREMENTS

The job holder will have a strong technical knowledge of mechanical and preventative maintenance systems and principles.
He will have at least 5 years experience in either a supervisory or technical role within heavy industy
He should have a sound knowledge of accounting, stores and purchasing systems. 
He should have a good working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and the application of continuous process environment.
