The Role

Our client, a leading advanced materials start-up specialising in hydrogen storage solutions, is seeking a highly motivated Lead Mechanical Engineer. You will play a pivotal role in the development, commissioning, and operation of a testing facility for a fully integrated hydrogen high pressure, low temperature tank system.
Note: The post is available on a salaried 1-year fixed term contract.

Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate the delivery of carbon composite tank systems and associated plant.
Lead projects funded by UK government grants, ensuring milestones are met.
Liaise with contractors for feasibility studies, design, construction, and commissioning of hydrogen storage systems.
Provide technical leadership from planning to delivery, managing engineering consultants and contractors.
Review design specifications, drawings, and documentation for tank fabrication and installation.
Oversee risk assessments and safety reviews to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Ensure timely project reporting to management and project partners, supporting project planning and tracking.

The Person
Degree:
At least a BSc in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience:
Significant experience in mechanical engineering, specifically in high pressure/high bar cryogenic vessel design, manufacturing, inspection, and maintenance.
Proven project management skills, including engaging with contractors and ensuring projects are on time and within budget.
Knowledge of relevant codes and standards for tank design, construction, maintenance, and inspection.
Experience with carbon composite tanks and specialised plant design and commissioning.
Skills:
Strong analytical skills and proficiency with relevant software.
Excellent stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
Problem-solving abilities and a focus on safety protocols, including HAZOP
