Lead Mechanical Design Engineer

£40-55k + Career Development

This is an intriguing opportunity to join a growing engineering business recognised for delivering bespoke Automation and Robotic Solutions to advanced manufacturing companies across the UK and worldwide. With expertise spanning Automated Assembly, Robotics, Inspection and Test, you will become part of a collaborative engineering team delivering innovative solutions that help customers increase productivity, improve quality and reduce manufacturing risk.

Lead Mechanical Design Engineer – The Role:

Lead the mechanical design and delivery of bespoke automation and robotic machinery projects
Design and detail machinery using 3D CAD (Solid Edge, SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo or similar)
Manage projects from sales handover through to customer acceptance and final installation
Conduct design reviews to ensure robust, cost-effective and manufacturable solutions
Produce Bills of Materials, technical documentation and Technical Construction Files (TCFs)
Work closely with Electrical Design Engineers, Software Engineers and Manufacturing teams throughout project delivery
Support machine build, installation and commissioning activities, providing technical guidance where required
Liaise directly with customers to understand requirements, review project progress and deliver successful outcomes
Visit customer sites to conduct surveys, obtain measurements and support installations across the UK and overseas
Manage supplier relationships and sourcing cost-effective components within project budgets
Carry out machine risk assessments and ensuring compliance with Machinery Directives and CE requirements
Mentor and support Designers, Fitters and Engineers throughout project execution
Drive continuous improvement, value engineering and design best practice across the engineering team
Lead Mechanical Design Engineer – What We're Looking For:

Competence in machinery automation design
Expert user of 3D parametric CAD package, ideally Solid-edge however use of Solid-works, Inventor, Creo etc would also be considered
Machine safety, CE marking and Machinery Directive compliance
Strong commercial awareness and customer-facing communication skills
Degree, HNC or HND qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
