Position: Lead Highway Engineer

Location: Hybrid

Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Highway Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and delivery of highway improvement schemes, managing reactive maintenance, and acting as a project manager on various projects including junction capacity, sustainable travel, and safety projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Development and Delivery:

Lead the development and delivery of highway improvement schemes.

Manage and organise reactive maintenance for highway infrastructure.

Ensure the successful completion of projects, adhering to quality, budget, and timelines.

Project Management:

Act as the project manager for junction capacity projects, sustainable travel projects, and safety projects.

Oversee the entire project lifecycle, from planning and design to execution and completion.

Produce and manage detailed project documentation.

Collaboration and Coordination:

Collaborate with design consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.

Develop and maintain a collaborative programme to ensure all parties meet deadlines.

Provide cost estimates, monitor budgets, and produce spend profiles.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

Chartered status with relevant professional bodies.

Experience:

Proven experience in writing tender documents for procuring design consultants.

Extensive experience in managing and liaising with design consultants and contractors for civil works, street lighting, and traffic signals.

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative programmes and produce reports.

Experience in monitoring budgets and providing accurate cost estimates.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

Strong knowledge of current traffic/highway design guides and legislation.

Experience in planning, designing, evaluating, and project managing major traffic engineering schemes.

Proficient in using AutoCAD and associated software packages.

Excellent project management skills, with a focus on maintaining thorough project documentation.

In-depth knowledge of highways legal matters, particularly S278, S38, and S106 agreements.

Familiarity with development control policies, standards, procedures, and legal agreements.

Experience in handling development management matters related to highways, traffic, and drainage for major schemes.

Competencies:

* Technical Proficiency: High level of proficiency in highway engineering principles, practices, and standards.

* Project Management: Strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a focus on detail and deadlines.
