Personal Fall Protection Systems and Equipment – Lead Engineering Manager

Location: Primarily London and the surrounding areas with some national travel

Work Schedule: 8hr shifts Monday to Friday with additional weekend cover

Salary: £50,000 to £65,000 per annum (competency dependant)

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and energetic individual to join a specialist work at height company. The right candidate may be a current mid-level manager looking to grow into a more senior role and to put their own stamp on the output, or an existing senior manager looking for an opportunity for a fresh challenge and forming a new team of the right calibre.

Overview of Role and Responsibilities:

To lead a small central London based team providing nationwide support for various facilities management and engineering sectors.

Design, installation, test, inspection, thorough examination, and maintenance of work at height related assets within current legislation, regulation, best practice, and manufacturers’ guidance. Assets include, but are not limited to:

- Temporary and permanent Personal Fall Protection Systems (restraint, work positioning/rope access, and fall arrest).

- Personal Fall Protection Equipment (e.g. harness, lanyards, rescue equipment).

- Fixed gantries, fixed ladders, and guardrail (fixed and free standing)

Develop, create and review supporting documentation for each task, such as:

- Construction Phase Plans & Health & Safety files.

- Risk assessments, method statements and rescue planning.

- Inspection forms.

- Installation and maintenance specifications.

- Examination schemes.

- O&M / Technical Files.

- Job sheets.

- Inspection certificates.

To provide all documents and reports to the agreed standard, within pre-set times scales, ensuring all key performance indicators are met.

Must be able to demonstrate and explain in detail the technical content within industry recognised legislation, regulations, British Standards, European Standards, authorised technical body guidance and best practice, including but not limited to (including previous versions):

- The Work at Height Regulations 2005.

- Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.

- The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992.

- The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.

- The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.

- The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998.

- The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998.

- BS EN ISO14122:2016 - Parts 1 to 4: Safety of machinery — Permanent means of access to machinery.

- BS 4211:2005+A1:2008 - Permanently fixed ladders.

- BS 8454:2006 - Delivery of training and education for work at height & rescue.

- Health & Safety Executive (HSE) policy, best practice, and guidance.

- Prefabricated access suppliers and manufacturers association policy, best practice, and guidance.

- International Powered Access Federation policy, best practice, and guidance.

- International Rope Access Trade Association policy, best practice, and guidance.

Experience and Skill Required:

- Ability to work at height.

- Full UK driving licence.

- Minimum of 5 years experience within the fall protection industry (design, installation, test, inspection, and thorough examination).

- Personal fall protection systems and equipment manufacturer training.

- Proficient in the use of personal fall protection systems and equipment, and rescue equipment.

- Supervisory/management experience.

- Thorough understanding of health and safety management

- Strong communication skills.

- A good level of English (written and verbal) is essential.

- Good understanding of Microsoft Packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Email.

- Good level of use of CAD software beneficial

- An excellent working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulation, best practice, and manufacturers’ guidance.

- Operational background in engineering and construction.

Qualifications Required:

- Mechanical Engineering HNC or equivalent (preferred)

- NEBOSH general certificate or equivalent (preferred)

- International Rope Access Trade Association – Level 3 rope access technician/supervisor (preferred)

- PASMA – user (preferred)

- IPAF – Cat 1a, 3a, and 3b (preferred)

- Construction Skills Certification Scheme (Preferred)

Where all qualifications are not immediately available a CPD programme may be agreed (subject to other skills, knowledge, and experience) to improve knowledge and gain additional qualifications where required
