This Lead Engineer will report to the EPN Operations Manager and will work within Capital Programme & Procurement - Investment Delivery based in our Colchester office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £89,786 plus car and a bonus of 3%

Role Purpose

You will lead a team of 3 to 4 Engineers who help to deliver major projects in CPP

You will be responsible for planning and organising technical resource across the EPN Operations team to ensure project requirements are met and will assist with operational activities.

JOB PURPOSE:

You will support the achievements of Capital Programme Investment Delivery and Company targets and goals.

You will coordinate the performance of several project and commissioning engineers carrying out APP and Major Connection projects. Ensure works are carried out to time, cost and quality standards, having overview responsibility for delivery of Projects with close liaison with Programme / Portfolio Managers, Alliance Partners, Outage Planning, Infrastructure Planning, Connections and Networks Operations Area Managers to ensure coordination of works to meet goals.

Direct responsibility, ensuring the highest customer service levels are maintained. This includes resolving escalated customer technical issues.

Principal Accountabilities

Provide engineering, safety and management leadership to a group of project and commissioning engineers working across all operational disciplines.
Plan resource allocations to ensure Project requirements are met.
Ensure the level of engineering within the portfolio is improved and that engineers are developed by being a coach and mentor;
Deputise for the Operations Manager;
To collaborate with partners in prioritising the important capital workload to be delivered within the LPN footprint ensuring that it is completed promptly.
Ensure that a high standard of safety management prevails throughout all responsibilities and that safety performance is maintained within parameters defined by the Executive. Promote the stay safe culture.
Ensure staff comply with Company procedures and complete work to the required standards.
Coordination with the resource planning manager to schedule all planned work so that they are delivered in a safe, prompt and cost efficient manner.
Coordination with Commissioning Engineers and Programme / Portfolio Managers to ensure most efficient resource are available for planned project work.
Liaise on matters of operational, plant and cable policy with Asset Management experts to ensure the right balance is maintained between safety, cost, quality and delivery.
Support daily planning, coordination and real-time responsibility for the efficient utilisation of resources including directly employed staff and, if appropriate, contractors. Ensuring that work is available, by collaborating with the resource planning manager, Project Managers, Project Supervisors, internal and external customers to maximise the utilisation of resources.
Improve the performance of the team.
Removal of barriers to the efficient delivery of work across all directorates.
Work with Project Supervisors to improve customer experiences.
Establishing a process of continuous improvement through Coaching for Performance, the development of staff and utilisation of new technology.
To perform Field Engineer operational audits.
Contribute to an ongoing high-level Strategic Resource Plan.
Support the team in preparation, readiness and implementation for a system emergency at local tactical team.

Nature and Scope

You will be an experienced engineer and leader with a good understanding of the business from an operational perspective. You will be an important member of the Operational team within London and must have integrity and demonstrate intelligent balanced judgement in all matters, in particular those relating to people at all levels of our business. An understanding of the range and type of both professional and trade skills that are necessary in delivering the businesses goals is required.

Additionally, the post holder must

You will collaborate with managers within Capital Programme.
Demonstrate they are practical by virtue of their actions, in the form of moving others to action by planning, motivating, organising and controlling tasks and deliverables .
Have experience in respect of planning, logistics and commercial issues and to produce well-reasoned proposals and solutions.
Focused on delivering complex customer and operationally guided projects and programmes to time and budget.

Experience:

You will have both a high degree of experience in field engineering and be able to demonstrate commitment towards meeting business targets. We ask that you are someone who inspires those they mentor, setting the highest of standards in all areas including professional conduct. You will collaborate with other partners to resolve problems and develop or implement new plans.

The base level qualifications/courses are as follows;-

Degree or HNC/D in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (See Note 1 below);
Full SAP at 11kV, 33kV and 132kV
NEBOSH Certificate (See Note 2 below);
3 day Leadership and 1 day Communication skills course (See Note 2 below);

To recognise the significance of this position you will also work towards continuing your professional development in engineering, safety, leadership and general management. You will therefore be encouraged to be a member of the IET at the grade of EngTech or higher. Registration details can be found on the IET's web

Notes for candidates who do not satisfy all of the above requirements/qualifications

As an exception for this advert, candidates that have all the necessary experience and attributes to undertake the role, but do not hold a Degree or HNC in Electrical Engineering may still be considered if they are prepared to undertake further studies to obtain a Degree, HNC or equivalent qualification. In such cases an agreed period of secondment to band C may be offered to obtain the qualification.
Candidates who do not already have this qualification are still eligible to apply. Should they be successful they must achieve the qualification/course within a reasonable period after their appointment;

You should hold a NRSWA Supervisors certificate, and have a clean driving licence.
