Lead Embedded C Design Engineer
Cumbria Permanent - Hybrid 
£50k + DOE pa + Company Benefits
 
We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Lead Embedded C Engineer to be based at our client site in Cumbria.
 
Our client is a world class provider of advanced solutions for defence, aerospace, rail and telecommunications applications - meeting the needs of global customers.
 
Specialists in LED lighting, night vision lighting, electronic component supplies and data capture products. Our client offers comprehensive design, manufacturing and test facilities for electronic and electro-optic systems and components within the company's UK manufacturing centre.
 
Summary of Role
 
Responsible for the full life cycle development of practical, innovative and cost effective software and firmware for LED lighting systems used in Aerospace and Military applications.    
 
Duties and Responsibilities

Direction and development of the software process maintaining and developing in house software standards and procedures.
Leading the design of new software products.
Developing the in house software team.
Contributing to all areas of the software development life cycle including  requirements specifications, design specifications, coding, testing, QA & review at all stages.
Advance software development projects through the full lifecycle from initial concept through requirements, design, coding, verification, validation and certification, ensuring high quality, sustainable products that meet stakeholder specification are achieved.
Produce formal documentation as required
Work in accordance with design milestones to guarantee specifications are met and projects can progress on time to the next stage
Critically review software design processes identifying areas of improvement, highlighting and implementing actions in order to promote maximum efficiency and continuous improvement
Monitor and maintain departmental documentation systems in accordance with design and project management processes, agreed procedures and company standards.
Apply knowledge of the latest developments in software development techniques to ensure the business remains a  market leader and continues to meet customer demand
Take technical lead on specific projects and agree technical approach with the Engineering manager
Responsible for checking parts libraries are up to date and correct
Take responsibility for supporting Electronic Engineers in design techniques and the departmental processes
The Senior Electronics Engineer will also support the Engineering Manager in recording and reporting design progress into the project and management teams  Essential

Embedded C
4+ Years experience embedded C design. 
Microcontroller experience (16Bit & 8 Bit)
Verification/Debugging knowledge (writing Test scripts, Low level Unit testing and
Integration testing)
Extensive knowledge of 8 and 16bit microprocessors/microcontrollers in including PIC18 and DSPIC
Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Excellent Analytical and Problem Solving skills
Excellent communication skills, written and presentation skills Nice to have or willing to learn

MISRA C safety Critical
Producing formal documentation in accordance with DO-178B and other standards. Personal Attributes  
 
Self-driven with a positive outlook, able to work equally well as an individual or as part of a team. Good communicator, well presented and business-like. Sufficiently mobile and flexible to travel. Keen for new experience, responsibility, to develop new skills and expand knowledge base.
