About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to support a major HV Substation Project within the nuclear sector. Reporting to the Project Engineering Manager and/or Electrical Engineering Manager, you will take ownership of the electrical engineering scope, ensuring high‑quality delivery, compliance, and technical excellence across all project stages.

This is a purely electrical role, requiring recent, hands‑on detailed design experience and the ability to obtain security clearance.

Key Responsibilities

You will lead the electrical discipline and may be responsible for:

Overall delivery of the electrical scope, including schedule development, MDR creation, change control, project reporting, leading meetings, and delegating work packages within the electrical team.

Supporting project estimates, including CTR development.

Providing technical input and producing, checking, and approving engineering documentation such as:

* Basis of Design

* Power system calculations

* Earthing & lightning protection calculations

* Equipment sizing calculations

* Load schedules

* Equipment specifications & datasheets

* SLDs, cable schedules, material take‑offs, BCDs, schematics

* Equipment and cable routing layouts

Preparing equipment and materials requisitions for HV/LV switchboards, transformers, motors, UPS systems, power factor correction, trace heating, lighting, and other electrical equipment.

Reviewing supplier quotations and preparing technical bid assessments.

Preparing installation scopes of work.

Ensuring compliance with national/international codes, legislation, and client/company standards.

More specific tasks may include:

HV power system modelling

HV protection studies

Liaison with the DNO and other key stakeholders

Electrical equipment ageing and obsolescence management

Supporting site teams with operational issues

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering (relevant apprenticeships may be considered).

Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or evidence of working towards).

15+ years’ engineering experience in the nuclear sector or similar regulated industries.

Strong knowledge of UK legislation, standards, and design/installation practices.

Experience with equipment installation in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Understanding of CE marking requirements including ATEX, PED, Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive, and EMC compliance.

Awareness of risk identification, quantification, management, and HSE requirements.

Proven experience managing electrical teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.
