Lead Analytical Scientist

We are supporting an innovative advanced materials technology company that is looking for an experienced Lead Analytical Scientist to drive the development of advanced material characterisation capabilities within a fast-paced R&D environment.

This role combines hands-on scientific investigation with technical leadership, supporting the development of next-generation materials through advanced analytical techniques, method development, and cross-functional collaboration. You will play a key role in understanding the relationships between process, structure, properties, and performance to support product development and commercialisation.

You will take ownership of analytical programmes, working independently and collaboratively to deliver high-impact scientific outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
Lead analytical and characterisation activities to support materials development programmes
Design and execute investigations to understand process–structure–property–performance relationships
Develop and improve materials characterisation methodologies
Analyse and interpret complex datasets to generate actionable scientific insights
Collaborate with R&D, quality, and manufacturing teams to support business objectives
Lead technical problem-solving and root cause investigations
Support and mentor scientists while promoting knowledge sharing across teams
Ensure high standards of laboratory safety, quality, and complianceRequirements
PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related discipline
Significant industrial experience within materials development or advanced technology environments
Strong expertise in materials characterisation and analytical method development
Experience investigating process–structure–property relationships
Proven ability to analyse and interpret complex scientific data independentlyDesirable
Experience working with battery materials, energy storage technologies, or electrochemical systems
