Description:

We are currently seeking an interim Laboratory Technician, to work with our global FMCG client , renowned for brands such as Dove, Sure, Persil, and Simple, and become an integral part of their fast-paced FMCG environment.

The position is based at our client's scientific Research & Development facility in Port Sunlight Village, Wirral easily accessible by train and car. This is a full-time temporary role to run for 12 months, requiring 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Compensation for this role is competitive, paying between £24,700 - £26,500 per annum, pro rata, depending upon experience.

Job Purpose:

The role will involve providing technical and laboratory support to the Preservation Team, focusing on coordinating and preparing samples to ensure the provision of microbiologically safe products. You will engage in various testing and formulation activities, adhering to prescribed procedures and health and safety guidelines. We are seeking a proactive and independent team player who can thrive in a multi-functional, multi-cultural environment.

Responsibilities:

Support the Preservation Team with sample coordination across various projects and activities.
Coordinate on-site delivery of microbiological samples, lab consumables, and related materials.
Assist with the preparation and organisation of lab stocks and formulations for proactive development.
Collaborate with the team in the laboratory to conduct microbiological testing and prepare product samples.
Prepare and dispatch samples for internal and external testing.
Coordinate with logistics and regional teams for timely sample delivery to different locations.
Ensure all safety protocols and processes are up to date and meticulously followed, including risk assessments, health and safety, and laboratory management.
Communicate project updates, challenges, and timing changes to the team.
Maintain and verify inventories of samples, lab consumables, and equipment.
Manage the storage and organisation of microbiological samples and lab materials.
Raise purchase orders (POs) and receipt them in the system, ensuring accurate financial records and budget tracking.

Key competencies:

Communication/Networking - Including be able to present technical information using appropriate language, both verbal and written, to specialist and non-specialist audiences
Team working - Working in multidisciplinary teams including being able to establish and communicate objectives to team members and stakeholders.
Practical creativity - including being able to uses ideas from a range of sources to recommend new approaches to work.
Judgement - Proven problem solver and decision maker capable of using technical judgement when complete information is not available. Being able to present sound and practical judgements to support decisions where there may be significant implications.
Planning and Organisation. Setting priorities to resolve conflicting demands to make the most efficient use of time.

Key skills

Science background in microbiology/biology/chemistry/biochemistry. Ideally to BSc level with experience.
Previous practical laboratory skills in a related industry
Experience of data handling and use of digital tools
Ability to write scientific papers and reports.

Ideally you will also have the following skills / experience:

Excellent team working and interpersonal skills.
Good communication skills both written and verbal.
Good time management.
Good organisation skills with a high level of accuracy.
