Description:

We are currently looking for a Laboratory Technician to join a growing and innovative life sciences company based in the Cambridgeshire area.

As the Laboratory Technician you will work alongside a team of scientists to contribute to drug discovery projects, supporting core laboratory activities.

This role will involve both technical and administrative tasks. As a Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for the organisation of day to day functions of the laboratory areas. You will be managing laboratory operations but also supporting basic cell culture and biochemistry work.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your duties as the Laboratory Technician will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. Maintaining and ordering stocks of essential laboratory supplies and consumables (including undertaking regular stock checks). Collecting, unpacking, and receiving parcels and deliveries. Local laboratory support services such as: Delivery of Liquid Nitrogen, Glass washing, Waste collection, Laboratory coat laundry collection, Organising pipette clinics, Organising servicing of equipment.

2. Ensuring laboratories are kept clean and tidy including tissue culture and storeroom. Collection and disposal of routine laboratory waste (chemicals, clinical waste, WEEE etc) by agreed routes. Monitoring and record keeping of laboratory stocks using an electronic LIMS system.

3. Assist the Operations manager with the preparation and supervision of engineer/service visits. Assist the Operations manager with the preparation for Health & Safety inspections, and implementing actions associated with these where appropriate.

4. Laboratory support: Buffer preparation, ELISA, Sample management and aliquoting, Mammalian cell culture

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Laboratory Technician we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. A working knowledge and practical experience providing similar laboratory services, ideally within a biological laboratory setting.

2. Proven experience of laboratory health and safety procedures, plus additional experience of general lab practice techniques and instrumentation.

3. Relevant degree in a biological sciences related discipline would be an advantage. A Level in Biology as a minimum.
