Position Summary:

As a Laboratory Assistant 1, you will work in a dynamic, fast-paced, team-oriented environment and support scientists in creating cutting-edge genomic analysis tools. The role is lab-based, and you will be responsible for the upkeep of the labs, placing orders for stock, washing glassware, and providing support to the Lab Manager. Additional responsibilities are outlined below.

Responsibilities:

Maintain laboratory products and consumables, raising requisitions for replenishment where necessary.
Assist the Lab Management Team in the following:
Maintaining chemical inventory and ensuring all materials are stored according to documented temperature requirements and in correct inventory locations.
Auditing and organizing chemical and equipment storage locations.
Ensuring laboratory waste streams are correctly managed prior to collection and disposal.
Supporting the maintenance of regulated lab accreditation and assisting the Laboratory Supervisor/Specialist with regulator audits and quality investigations.
Keeping laboratory cleanliness and housekeeping in all areas to a high standard.
Equipment relocation and calibration.
Routine preventative maintenance of basic laboratory equipment.
Liaising with the wider Lab Management team, other internal departments, and external visitors/contractors.
Provide ad-hoc support to laboratory staff.
Participate in scheduled inventory cycle counts.The listed responsibilities are essential but not exhaustive. Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs.

Requirements:

Highly organized with an eye for detail, upholding safety and regulatory compliance within the laboratory.
Ability to manage multiple parallel activities and track progress in a way that can be easily reported back to the manager and laboratory staff.
Ability to take on more challenging routine tasks involving chemical or biochemical procedures.
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.
Experience in chemical use and handling is desirable but not essential.All listed requirements are considered essential functions of this position; however, business conditions may require reasonable accommodations for additional tasks and responsibilities.

Experience/Education:

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.
Good communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.Desirable Skills:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form.
Ability to interpret policy and establish methods and procedures.
Ability to perform all essential functions using safe work methods and following safety regulations related to the job.
Knowledge of basic laboratory and clerical procedures.
Ability to operate laboratory and office equipment.
Ability to accurately perform math calculations, solution preparations, and troubleshoot when needed.
Knowledge of ordering supplies and maintaining inventories of laboratory supplies/equipment.
Knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets.
Knowledge of laboratory safety rules, policies, and procedures.
