KS2 Teaching Assistant – Year 5

Location: Hertfordshire

Pay: £101.50–£105 per day

Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary

Start date: September 2026

Enjoy helping children build confidence, tackle new challenges and become more independent learners? Teach Now is recruiting a dedicated KS2 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 5 class at a welcoming primary school in Hertfordshire.

Working alongside the class teacher, you will support everyday learning and deliver targeted interventions in reading, writing and maths. Your encouragement will help pupils strengthen their skills, stay engaged and feel proud of their progress.

This diverse, inclusive community primary school combines high expectations with a nurturing approach. Staff work collaboratively to ensure children receive the support they need, with a strong focus on positive relationships, pupil wellbeing and removing barriers to learning.

Your responsibilities

• Support the Year 5 teacher with lessons, classroom activities and learning resources.

• Work with pupils individually and in small groups, delivering targeted literacy and maths support.

• Help children with SEND, English as an additional language and gaps in learning access classroom activities.

• Encourage concentration, positive behaviour and independent learning.

• Record observations and share feedback with the class teacher.
What were looking for

• Experience working with children, ideally within a primary or Key Stage 2 setting.

• Strong literacy and numeracy skills, with confidence supporting Year 5 learning.

• A patient, proactive approach and the ability to motivate pupils.

• Good communication, teamwork and consistent behaviour-support skills.

• A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or relevant equivalent experience.
Experience supporting SEND or delivering reading and maths interventions would be beneficial.
