Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

A vibrant and welcoming primary school located in South Tyneside is seeking a dedicated and qualified Teaching Assistant to join their lower Key Stage 2 (KS2) team. This full-time role is ideal for a proactive professional looking to make a meaningful impact within a supportive classroom environment.

The Role

The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher to support the whole classroom, ensuring all pupils remain engaged, motivated, and supported in their learning journeys. Beyond general classroom assistance, a core focus of this role involves providing targeted support to students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

The school prides itself on an inclusive curriculum, and the new Teaching Assistant will play a vital role in adapting tasks, managing classroom dynamics, and fostering a nurturing space where every child can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

*

Assisting the classroom teacher with daily lesson delivery, resource preparation, and classroom management within lower KS2.

*

Providing tailored support to pupils with a range of SEND requirements, ensuring their individual learning plans are effectively implemented.

*

Working with small groups or on a one-to-one basis to boost literacy, numeracy, and social confidence.

*

Fostering a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment that encourages pupil independence and well-being.

*

Collaborating with the school’s Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) and external professionals where necessary.

Candidate Requirements

The school is specifically looking for an individual who brings both practical experience and formalized training to the team. To be considered, candidates must possess:

*

A recognized Teaching Assistant Qualification (e.g., Level 2/3 Award/Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, or equivalent).

*

Previous experience working within a primary school setting, ideally with familiarity across the lower KS2 curriculum.

*

A genuine passion and willingness to support students with SEND, demonstrating patience, empathy, and adaptability.

*

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with children, parents, and staff.

*

An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one).

What the School Offers

The school offers a warm, collaborative working atmosphere with a leadership team deeply committed to staff development. The chosen candidate will have access to ongoing professional training and the opportunity to become an integral part of a close-knit community
