KS1 Teaching Assistant – 12-Month Maternity Cover

Start: November 2026
Duration: 12 months
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm
Working day: 6.5 paid hours with a 30-minute lunch break
Pay: £14.25 per hour, paid weekly

We are recruiting a full-time Teaching Assistant to cover a 12-month maternity leave within a fantastic primary school from November 2026.

The role will be based within a KS1 classroom, providing general classroom support and working closely with the class teacher to ensure pupils are engaged, supported and making good progress.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

Providing general classroom support within a KS1 class
Delivering phonics groups and interventions
Supporting pupils with English, Maths and wider curriculum activities
Adapting learning and teaching approaches to suit individual needs
Providing targeted support for pupils with speech, language and communication needs
Working with individuals and small groups to bridge gaps in learning
Helping to create a positive, engaging and inclusive classroom environment

Who We’re Looking For

This is an excellent opportunity for either an experienced Teaching Assistant or a newly qualified TA looking to secure a consistent, long-term role within a supportive primary school.

To be considered, you must:

Have previous classroom support experience
Hold a Teaching Assistant, Childcare or relevant equivalent qualification
Be confident supporting children within the primary age range
Have an understanding of phonics and early literacy development
Be able to adapt your approach to support pupils with speech and language needs
Be nurturing, patient and enthusiastic about helping young children succeed
