Junior Systems & Build Engineer (244lw) Defence Tech – Midlands - £40,000.00 - £45,000 + Benefits
Are you a Linux Systems Administrator, Infrastructure Engineer or Build Engineer looking to develop your career beyond traditional systems administration?

We are working with an established technology organisation seeking a Junior Systems & Build Engineer to join its engineering team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys solving technical problems and wants to develop specialist skills across Linux, infrastructure, software builds and deployment within a technically challenging Defence technology environment.
You'll work closely with engineering teams supporting the systems, infrastructure and tooling required to develop, build and deliver software products.
Your responsibilities will include
Supporting the build, deployment and delivery of software products.
Administering and maintaining Linux-based development and build infrastructure.
Supporting configuration and version-control systems.
Maintaining build machines, development environments and associated infrastructure.
Responding to infrastructure and engineering support requests.
Investigating technical issues and providing effective diagnostic support.
Supporting business continuity and disaster recovery activities.
Contributing to technical documentation and training materials.
Supporting research and improvements to engineering processes and ways of working.
Contributing to technical design and wider engineering activities.
Developing your skills across infrastructure, automation and build technologies.
Essential
2+ years' experience in systems administration or a similar infrastructure role.
Strong Linux administration skills, ideally Red Hat or similar.
Bash scripting.
Experience with yum/dnf or equivalent package management.
Desirable -
Terraform
Ansible
Jenkins
Build tools such as Conan
Artifactory
Coverity
Additional Linux/infrastructure certifications.
You'll be -
Curious and keen to learn.
Interested in developing into more advanced infrastructure, build, DevOps or engineering responsibilities.
A relevant professional qualification, degree, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience would be considered.
Security - The role operates within a secure Defence technology environment, so you may be required to obtain security clearance.
This is a great opportunity to broaden your technical skillset across Linux, automation, build systems, infrastructure and DevOps, with exposure to a range of technically interesting projects.
The role is particularly suited to someone who wants to progress beyond traditional systems administration and develop a more specialised engineering career.
