We have a fantastic opportunity for a Junior Management Accountant join our team based in Stockport or London Canary Wharf. The salary on offer is starting from £43,000. This role will be working from home 4 days a week and 1 day in the office.

About the role:

This is a role within the Shared Services Business Delivery team. The role holder will join the wider Corporate Finance team of professionals who provide financial planning and budgeting, reporting, control, and general ledger oversight for NHS Property Services, as well as our Finance Shared Services and Finance Systems Optimisation teams under Shared Services.

This role delivers management accounting expertise, gives support for financial reporting, contributes to performance analysis and adds insight and control to the Finance team for NHS Property Services, covering all functions and end-to-end income and costs.

The role holder should act as a gatekeeper to the NHS reporting ledger, ensuring there is control and governance for all related activities so that we are producing accurate and timely reporting and analysis that can help management make better decisions related to their business performance.

The role will need to deal with a multitude of stakeholders both in wider Finance and the business. Building relationships and working collaboratively together to put the Customer at the Heart is key to the success of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

This role supports the wider management accounting team in preparing and posting journal ledger entries for all NHSPS functions and end-to-end income and costs for the P&L and Balance Sheet by:
Assisting in reviewing and monitoring the draft ledger position for NHSPS to gain an understanding of the key drivers for movements in the P&L and corresponding balance sheet;
Maintaining accrual and prepayment calculations and models at property level for key income and expenditure lines; and
Preparing and posting month end journals accurately and in a timely manner to ensure income and expenditure is captured correctly in the month end period.
The role holder will assist in the understanding of monthly variance analysis to budget / forecast to drive insightful commentary and analysis for better management decision making by:
Working with relevant Finance colleagues to understand key business developments, movements in our property portfolio, potential risks or opportunities that may impact the month end reporting, any material adjustments required; and
Liaising with the Finance Business Partner team to support the understanding of material movements, one-offs and underlying run rate for key income and expenditure lines to drive better commentary; and
Review and where appropriate challenge explanations provided for the reasons behind material variances to budget / forecast in order to maintain the integrity of the financial results.
The role holder should actively identify and review material and aged accruals on a regular basis and liaise with Finance Business Partner team to ensure there is a plan to clear down in a timely manner.
Provide commentary and ageing for MoM movements in accruals, prepayments and ensure accurate and timely completion of the monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
Assist in internal and external audit queries in relation to P&L and Balance Sheet postings, maintaining and delivering good quality and timely supporting evidence for the preparation of the statutory accounts.What you will bring to the role:

Degree level qualification or equivalent, suitably qualified by experience.
Part-qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA
Demonstrates good understanding of double entry accounting, management accounting and reporting.
Experience of requirements of a management accounting role within Financial and Management reporting team.
Able to challenge upwards and not afraid to ask difficult questions backed by data.
Team player and customer focused.
Able to work on own initiative and organise workload without supervision, working to tight deadlines.
IT Skills - Intermediate to Advanced Excel incl. pivot tables, formulae and handling data.
