Job Purpose

The Perpetual Inventory (PI) Controller is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records throughout the warehouse by carrying out continuous stock verification, investigating discrepancies, and ensuring all inventory transactions are accurately recorded within the Warehouse Management System (WMS). The role plays a vital part in supporting operational efficiency, maintaining stock integrity, and ensuring high levels of customer service are achieved.

Working Hours

The standard working hours for this position are Tuesday to Saturday, from 12:00pm until 9:00pm. Due to the nature of the role, flexibility is essential, and the successful candidate will be expected to adapt to changing business requirements. This may occasionally involve starting earlier or finishing later in order to complete stock investigations, support operational priorities, or respond to customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

The Perpetual Inventory Controller will be responsible for carrying out daily perpetual inventory counts in line with the warehouse cycle count programme, ensuring that stock records remain accurate at all times. Any discrepancies identified must be investigated thoroughly, with corrective actions taken promptly to resolve issues and prevent recurrence.

The role requires the accurate maintenance of inventory records through effective use of the Warehouse Management System (WMS), ensuring all stock movements and transactions are correctly processed. The post holder will work closely with colleagues across Goods In, Picking, Packing, Dispatch, and Warehouse Operations to investigate inventory queries, resolve stock issues, and maintain a high level of inventory accuracy.

The successful candidate will monitor inventory performance, identify trends in stock variances, and provide feedback and recommendations to management to improve warehouse processes. They will also assist with customer stock queries, produce inventory reports when required, and support periodic stock audits, including month-end and year-end inventory counts.

The role requires a proactive approach to continuous improvement, ensuring warehouse procedures are followed consistently to minimise stock loss and operational errors while maintaining excellent housekeeping and health and safety standards.

The Perpetual Inventory Controller will also undertake any other reasonable duties requested by management that are appropriate to the position.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have previous experience in a warehouse stock control, inventory, or perpetual inventory role and possess a strong working knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS). They will demonstrate excellent attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and the capability to investigate stock discrepancies methodically and accurately.

The role requires good communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across different warehouse departments. Candidates should be confident using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and be able to prioritise their workload while working independently with minimal supervision.

Experience within a logistics, distribution, or third-party logistics (3PL) environment would be advantageous, along with knowledge of cycle counting processes, inventory control procedures, and stock reporting.

The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, a flexible approach to work, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities while maintaining a high standard of accuracy. They will be a reliable team player who remains calm under pressure and is committed to delivering continuous improvements in warehouse performance and inventory accuracy.

Health & Safety

The post holder is responsible for complying with all company Health and Safety policies and procedures, ensuring safe working practices are followed at all times, reporting hazards promptly, and contributing to the maintenance of a safe and efficient warehouse environment
