Intervention Officer

Details:
  • Salary:
  • Location: Islington
  • Date: 2 weeks ago
Description:

We are Hestia. We make a difference.

At Hestia, we live by our values and are committed to a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive organisation that provides a variety of services such as Domestic Abuse, Modern Slavery, Mental Health & Complex Needs and Criminal Justice. We are committed to empower people to rebuild their lives and regain independence.

The service you will work in….

Approved Premises (AP) work with the highest-risk offenders and provide a vital element in public protection arrangements. AP offer a ‘stepping stone' from prison to more mainstream community life with a level of contact, support and supervision that does not exist anywhere else in the probation service.

Residents are seen on a daily basis and staff become involved in the resident's life to a very high degree: giving advice and offering support whilst exercising control and supervision, all the time liaising with the rest of the probation service and a wide range of agencies. This intense level of contact is what enables AP staff to monitor residents' well-being, to tailor support and to be aware of their actions and changes in their behaviour in a way that no other intervention can.

The role of AP staff is to encourage and facilitate residents to do all that they can for themselves, rather than to do the work for them. AP staff are not employed to work for residents, but to empower and enable them to do things for themselves. AP staff do not organise most residents' lives or time for them. Although some do require help in this aspect of their lives residents have freedom, including the freedom to make mistakes, even if there are negative consequences for them. Staff make residents aware of their responsibilities.

All client-facing staff working in the Approved Premises are subject to a rolling rota. For day staff this will include a combination of early, late and weekend shifts, and for Out of Hours workers, this will be night shifts only. Further information on the shift patterns we will provided as part of the recruitment process, and can be provided upon request.

A day in this role looks like….

As an Intervention Officer at Hestia, you will play a crucial role in our Criminal Justice service. Your contributions will directly influence the lives of our service users, guiding them towards a path of empowerment and independence.

A day will never look the same and some of the things you can expect to do/be responsible for are:

To act as a keyworker, coordinating all aspects of the residents stay in the service, assertively and persistently providing flexible and responsive support and encouragement.

To provide intensive casework, support and monitoring of general, risk and support needs, facilitated by keywork sessions, community meetings and general day to day contact with residents.

Contributing to delivery of the sentence plan in conjunction with colleagues in probation, the police and other external agencies.

Providing admin and other support to colleagues, particularly in the preparation, facilitation and evaluation of purposeful activities.

Ensuring all tasks detailed on the daily task sheets are carried out.

Following protocols, encouraging compliance and taking enforcement action as necessary, in particular around drug and alcohol testing requirements and curfews.

Ensuring that colleagues, multi-agency partners and management are informed and updated as necessary.

Actively engaging with clients and providing opportunities to do so including preparation of supper and breakfast.

Actively monitoring and maintaining the health, safety, security, cleanliness and hygiene of the Approved Premises and the well-being of its occupants utilising information sharing, CCTV, direct observation, inspection, personal contact and other methods, as appropriate.

Ensuring that all related administration is done in good time; that detailed, concise and accurate records are created contemporaneously, that information is shared appropriately and that confidentiality is properly maintained.

Work with the team, including management to ensure that the service is a psychologically informed environment, and meetings the criteria for an Enabling Environment accreditation.

Work within Hestia's policies and procedures where these don't conflict with requirements of the Ministry of Justice or Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service.
