Description:

Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Bristol
Salary: £36,000-£48,000, depending on experience
Working Arrangements: Hybrid working available

The Company

A well-established, independent building services consultancy based in Bristol is looking to add an Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer to its team.

The consultancy works across a wide range of sectors, including commercial, retail, industrial, education, healthcare, hotel and leisure, and infrastructure. Projects vary in size, from smaller refurbishments and plant replacements through to major developments valued at £50m+.

With a team of 10, the business offers a close-knit working environment where engineers have the opportunity to gain exposure, work closely with the directors, get involved in a varied range of projects and continue developing their technical skills.

The Role

This is a great opportunity for an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer looking to build on their existing experience and take on more responsibility within a consultancy environment.

You'll be involved in the design and delivery of a varied project portfolio, working on everything from existing building surveys and plant replacements through to refurbishments, fit-outs and larger developments.

Working alongside the directors and wider engineering team, you'll help develop mechanical designs, coordinate with other disciplines and liaise with clients and contractors throughout the project lifecycle.

The role offers a good mix of hands-on design and project involvement, with the opportunity to take ownership of your work while continuing to learn from an experienced team.

Key Responsibilities

Design mechanical building services systems, including heating, cooling, ventilation, hot and cold water, drainage and associated controls.
Produce design calculations, drawings, specifications, schematics and technical reports.
Support projects from initial surveys and feasibility through to detailed design, tender and construction.
Manage your workload across several projects, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.
Attend client meetings and liaise with contractors, architects and other design professionals.
Survey existing buildings and assist with recommendations for refurbishment, plant replacement and energy efficiency improvements.
Coordinate mechanical designs with the wider engineering team and other project disciplines.
Assist with reviewing contractor submissions, responding to technical queries and carrying out site inspections.
Ensure designs comply with relevant regulations, standards and project requirements.
What They're Looking For

Experience in mechanical building services design, ideally within a UK consultancy.
A good understanding of mechanical systems and building services design principles.
Experience producing calculations, technical documentation and CAD drawings.
Familiarity with UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance and relevant industry standards.
Good communication skills and the confidence to work with colleagues, clients and contractors.
An organised approach to managing workloads and meeting deadlines.
A relevant degree, HNC/HND or equivalent experience in mechanical or building services engineering.
A full driving licence and access to a car for site visits and client meetings.
Experience with refurbishment projects, low-carbon heating, Revit or IES VE would also be beneficial.

What's on Offer

Salary of £36,000-£48,000, depending on experience.
Hybrid working.
A varied project portfolio, including schemes valued at £50m+.
The opportunity to take on more responsibility and develop your design skills.
Close working relationships with the directors and wider engineering team.
A small, supportive working environment where you'll have a genuine input into projects.
If you're an Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer looking for a role with varied projects, more involvement in project delivery and the chance to develop within a smaller consultancy, this could be worth exploring.
