Our client is seeking an experienced Interim General Manager to provide leadership, stability, and commercial direction within a fast-paced big box retail environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a business undergoing significant change and investment. The successful candidate will take full operational responsibility for a large-format retail operation, driving performance, leading teams through change, and delivering an exceptional customer experience while ensuring strong commercial results.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading large-scale retail operations and delivering results in high-volume, customer-focused environments. Experience within big box, discount, convenience, supermarkets, fashion, DIY, Garden Centres, would be highly advantageous.

The Role as our new General Manager

As Interim General Manager, you will assume responsibility for all aspects of site performance, ensuring operational excellence while delivering key commercial and people objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

Providing strong day-to-day leadership across all operational functions

Creating a positive, engaging, and high-performing culture

Driving sales, profitability, and operational KPIs

Setting clear expectations around service, standards, and execution

Managing budgets, forecasting, costs, and overall P&L performance

Developing and coaching leadership teams to maximise performance

Ensuring exceptional customer service standards throughout the business

Building effective relationships with senior stakeholders and support functions

Driving compliance, health & safety, and operational best practice

Leading through periods of change, transformation, or transition

Supporting local marketing initiatives and sharing business successes

The Ideal GM:

We are seeking a proven General Manager, Store Director, Regional Operations Leader, or Senior Retail Operations Manager with:

Extensive experience operating within high-volume retail environments

Strong commercial and financial acumen with full P&L responsibility

A track record of delivering operational improvements and business turnaround initiatives

Exceptional leadership and people development skills

Experience managing large teams and complex operations

A hands-on, visible management style

The ability to quickly assess challenges and implement effective solutions

Strong stakeholder management and communication skills

A passion for delivering outstanding customer experiences and operational standards
