Job Description:

Responsible to the Force Intelligence Supervisor as the Intelligence Researcher you will provide resilience and expertise across all areas of the intelligence function. To provide research support to the intelligence function within NWP and provide resilience in the research function across all areas of the intelligence function. To act as a point of expertise for Intelligence research and development within the division / dept. To communicate the findings of research to Intelligence Supervisors, Managers, Colleagues.

Location: St Asaph

Contract: 6 months

Work hours: Full time – Office Hours - Hybrid

Salary: £14.40 Per hour PAYE & £18.36 Per hour Umbrella

Main duties and responsibilities

* You will play a vital role in delivering Intelligence research and development relating to dynamic and ongoing Investigations including; Serious Organised Crime and Major Incidents, reporting and communicating your findings to Intelligence Supervisors, Managers and colleagues. Compiling internal reports on current active criminals and crime preparing briefings and bulletins to assist operational officers in areas that require specific action.

* Using your initiative to maximise intelligence development producing accurate reports to the highest standards and delivering them to senior officers

* We are looking for someone with a good eye for attention to detail, with an investigative mindset they should have a good knowledge of IT skills including NWP Intelligence systems, be proficient in the use of social media and have excellent communication skills with the ability to work on your own initiative or as part of a team.

* To scan and evaluate information and intelligence from a wide range of computerised databases, and open and closed information sources, utilising mixed method research including single approach and mixed approach designs.

* Produce high quality products in line with the NIM to inform management, and Tasking and Coordination groups, in order to contribute to the development of strategic and tactical decision making in line with the Force’s strategic plan.

* Compile internal reports on current active criminals and crime patterns. Prepare Intelligence Bulletins / Ad hoc briefings in order to brief and assist operational officers and provide a daily intelligence brief highlighting to officers all areas that require specific action.

* To provide a single point of contact for the division or Force, for outside police forces and other agencies, with regard to intelligence enquiries. Utilise, handle or act upon any intelligence received from these forces / agencies.

* To respond to intelligence requirements highlighted through the analysis of intelligence, and detailed within Target and Problem Profiles (as per the National Intelligence Model).

* Update the Force computerised Intelligence System with new intelligence developed thorough research, where appropriate.

* Work closely with Senior Intelligence Staff, Analysts, LIO’s, and FIO’s, to ensure that all parties are working towards the same priorities, and to facilitate a good flow of intelligence.

* Provide intelligence support to Major Incidents as and when required.

* To attend and participate in relevant local meetings in particular daily briefings and tasking meetings as and when required.

* To liaise with counterparts in other force areas, and other relevant units / agencies to assist in the development and communication of intelligence.

* Liaise closely with the Operational teams, Investigators, Crime and Disorder partners, and other units, in order to identify criminals who operate within the area, and to facilitate the development and actioning of intelligence.

* Conduct searches on internet based open source i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Ebay etc to assist in the progression and investigation on on-going crimes. This research can involve live-time events. Preparation of statements and exhibits in relation to research conducted, attending court to give evidence as and when required.

* Assist in firearms/critical incidents being responsible to the Silver Firearms Commander for the accurate submission of intelligence, compiling detailed profiles effecting the deployment of firearms and other resources. This includes assessing the current risk to victims, officers and members of the Public.

* On collation of the intelligence profile / synopsis, making positive assertions and actions to assist in the decision making process of the Silver Firearms Commander in receipt of the pack, inclusive, (if intel relates to firearms/weapons) of mapping the chronology of robberies and weapons/firearms used in them against the intelligence.

Essential

* NVQ level III or equivalent relevant qualifications and experience.

* Proven research skills preferably obtained within an intelligence environment.

* Good organisational skills, together with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.

* Excellent communication/ presentation skills, commensurate with grade.

* Possess an awareness of Law Enforcement tactics and investigation practices.

* Proven ability to work individually or as an effective member of a team.

* Competent use of various Force Computerised Intelligence Systems IT systems.

* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Access and Windows NT.

* Develop and maintain an understanding of MOPI (Management of Police Information), and understand the use of handling codes and protective marking scheme relevant for the dissemination of intelligence.

* Develop and maintain an understanding of NIM (National Intelligence Model), and where the role of the researcher fits into this model.

* Develop and maintain an understanding of current legislation relevant to the role of the researcher, for example RIPA (Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000) in relation to the acquisition of telecoms data.
