About this position

We are currently working with a company based in who specialise in safety-critical and process control systems. They operate in a number of different sectors such as oil and gas, petrochemical, process and utility sectors.

They design and manufacture globally compliant burner management, emergency shutdown and associated safety-related systems for the process industries.

Job responsibilities:

* The role will manage control & instrumentation design and consultancy projects (circa £10K to £200K in size) from point of sale, through to site commissioning.

* Being customer facing, great communication skills from a technical and commercial perspective, are essential.

* You will be responsible for a wide range of engineering design and project management tasks, with importance placed heavily on reading and interpreting technical documents to include industry standards, client specifications, P&IDs, logic diagrams etc.

* Ensuring that standards, specifications and guidelines pertaining to the Instrumentation and Control discipline conform to the requirements of relevant industry legislation, standards and guidance.

* Effective prioritisation of operations support / own projects and tasks to ensure on time delivery and within budget.

* General control of project work, including look-ahead planning, control of project budgets and schedules, change control, estimating activities, project document management and progress reporting.

* Review of client’s specifications and other national / international standards to ensure project compliance.

* Development of functional requirements specifications for control systems, SIS, F&G and instrumentation.

* Development of instrument databases.

* Participation in design reviews, including HAZOP / LOPA, hazardous area, etc.

* Specification of a wide range of process instrumentation. Performing calculations for intrinsic safety, SIL verification, flow meter sizing, valve sizing, thermowells, etc. Therefore, an in-depth knowledge of a wide range of process instrumentation is essential.

* Development of control and instrumentation content of piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs).

* Interfacing with client engineering representatives.

* Participation in site commissioning tasks.

Experience required:

* HNC / HND / Degree qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, or an equivalent level of engineering experience in a similar role, is essential.

* TUV Functional Safety certification would be preferred but not essential as a development pathway will be provided.

* A minimum of 5 years’ experience within an instrumentation role within the process industries.

* The ability to conduct site surveys and brownfield verification of existing control systems and field instrumentation is required.

* Familiarity with ATEX / IECEx equipment and an awareness of the National & International Standards for Hazardous Area Equipment is required.

* Experience in the planning and delivery of technical projects is essential.

* Current UK driving license is essential
