Background to the role
Devon County Council (DCC) is looking to recruit a motivated, dynamic, and experienced information governance professional to work in our Data Protection and Information Security Team as an Information Security Officer. This is a vital role that will help the Council to meet its obligations under data protection legislation, but will also support the Data Protection Officer to deliver high quality data protection and information governance advice, guidance and support to services across DCC.
What the role entails
The Information Security Officer will work in a team that is responsible for investigating information security incidents that involve actual or potential compromise to the confidentiality, integrity or availability of our information assets. The post holder will be expected to use their working knowledge of information security principles and data protection laws to analyse incidents, establish root causes, identify data protection and privacy risks and propose actions that will mitigate these risks. The post holder will also be expected to support the Data Protection Officer with the handling of data protection complaints and requests from data subjects to exercise their rights under data protection laws.
What we are looking for from you
You will have a detailed working knowledge of data protection legislation, information security principles and best practice, and will be able to apply this knowledge in a practical setting to enable you to respond effectively to information security incidents that have been reported to our Data Protection Officer.
You will be used to working with a broad range of stakeholders and will be a strong communicator, who is able to deliver often complex messages using plain English to a wide range of individuals including senior managers.
You will be used to managing a high caseload and to working under pressure, often to tight timescales that are dictated by statutory deadlines and will be calm and composed under pressure.
You will be a motivated team player who relishes working in a busy, dynamic environment and will be used to working as part of a team and independently as the need arises.
You will have a good work knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, SharePoint and Teams and will be familiar with how to use these tools in an administrative context.
