Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA)
Location: Colindale
Directorate: Family Services

Rate: £34.32 per hour (Umbrella)
We are seeking an experienced Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) to provide high-quality, trauma-informed support to victims and survivors of domestic abuse.
The successful candidate will assess risk, develop safety and support plans, advocate for victims, and work closely with statutory and community partners to promote safety and positive outcomes. You will also contribute to the development and delivery of Barnet’s Domestic Abuse Support Hub (BDASH).
Key Responsibilities
*
Provide practical, emotional and trauma-informed support to victims and survivors of domestic abuse.
*
Undertake risk assessments, including DASH, and develop effective safety plans.
*
Manage a complex caseload and provide proactive casework and assertive outreach where required.
*
Support victims through criminal, civil and family justice processes, including court proceedings.
*
Work closely with police, social care, housing, health and other partner agencies.
*
Participate in MARAC, safeguarding meetings and other multi-agency forums.
*
Advocate for victims and ensure their views and needs are represented.
*
Maintain accurate, confidential case records and prepare reports as required.
*
Promote safeguarding and contribute to service development, training and strategic VAWG/DA initiatives.
Essential Requirements
*
Level 3 regulated qualification in supporting victims of domestic abuse, such as SafeLives IDVA training or equivalent.
*
Minimum 2 years’ post-qualification experience as an IDVA.
*
Strong knowledge of domestic abuse, safeguarding and relevant legislation.
*
Experience of risk assessment, safety planning and multi-agency working.
*
Knowledge of criminal, civil and family justice processes.
*
Understanding of trauma-informed and intersectional practice.
*
Enhanced DBS required.
Mandatory: Must have a UK Passport or a Full Right to Work in the UK
