Income Recovery Officer – Interim (2 Months) North Hertfordshire | £25–27 per hour

A great short‑term opportunity for an experienced Income Recovery professional who thrives on balancing empathy with firm, fair arrears management. This two‑month interim role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact quickly, supporting a well‑run housing provider in North Herts during a busy period.

The Role

You’ll take ownership of a portfolio of current and former tenant accounts, working proactively to prevent arrears, maximise income, and support residents to sustain their tenancies. This is a hands‑on role where your judgement, communication skills and ability to build trust will be key.

Key responsibilities include:

* Managing a caseload of rent accounts, prioritising effectively and taking timely action to prevent and recover arrears.

* Building strong, supportive relationships with residents, demonstrating empathy while encouraging positive payment behaviour.

* Negotiating realistic repayment arrangements and encouraging engagement through calls, visits and interviews.

* Reviewing and managing credit balances and former tenant arrears in line with policy.

* Preparing and serving legal notices, instigating legal action within delegated authority, and attending court when required.

* Working closely with external partners including Housing Benefit teams, DWP, solicitors, Citizens Advice and support agencies.

* Ensuring accurate records, evidence and reporting to support performance targets.

* Staying up to date with welfare benefits, Universal Credit processes and changes affecting affordability.

* Contributing to continuous improvement of income recovery policies, procedures and systems.

About You

You bring a strong track record in income management and arrears recovery, including possession action. You’re confident engaging with residents in challenging situations and can balance compassion with clear, outcome‑focused decision‑making.

You’ll need:

* Experience in rent arrears recovery and income management.

* Solid understanding of welfare benefits and Universal Credit.

* Excellent communication, negotiation and time‑management skills.

* Ability to work independently, manage pressure and adapt quickly.

* A personable, service‑focused approach and confidence using IT systems.
