Looking for a Behaviour Support Worker job in Wakefield

Some young people don't need tougher rules. They need someone who listens, understands, and helps them believe in themselves again.

Protocol Education is recruiting for a Behaviour & Inclusion Support Worker to join a specialist education setting in Wakefield, supporting children and young people with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs), SEND, autism, ADHD, and behavioural needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of pupils who may have experienced exclusion, struggled in mainstream education, or need extra support to re-engage with learning.

If you're passionate about helping young people overcome barriers and achieve their potential, we'd love to hear from you.

Your role

As a Behaviour & Inclusion Support Worker, you'll:

Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH, SEND and additional needs

Build positive, trusting relationships that encourage confidence and engagement

Support pupils who have experienced exclusion or find mainstream education challenging

Help children develop emotional regulation, resilience and positive behaviours

Encourage participation in lessons and school activities

Work alongside teachers, pastoral teams, SENCOs and other professionals to provide consistent support

Create a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment where every pupil feels safe and valued

Every day brings something different, but every day offers the chance to make a lasting impact.

Who we're looking for

You'll be a great fit if you:

Stay calm and positive, even in challenging situations

Understand that behaviour is often a form of communication

Enjoy building strong, meaningful relationships with young people

Are patient, resilient and genuinely committed to helping pupils succeed

Can adapt your approach to meet individual needs

Experience in any of the following would be highly beneficial:

Behaviour Support Worker

Behaviour Mentor

Inclusion Support Worker

SEMH Teaching Assistant

SEND Teaching Assistant

Youth Worker

Learning Mentor

Support Worker

Care Worker

Teaching Assistant

Sports Coach

Residential Support Worker

Whether your experience comes from education, youth work, coaching, residential care or community support, we'd love to hear from you.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you'll need:

An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one

Two recent professional references

A good understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries

A positive attitude, resilience and a genuine passion for supporting children and young people

Why work with Protocol Education?

We're here to support you every step of the way.

When you join Protocol Education, you'll benefit from:

Weekly PAYE pay, with no umbrella company deductions

FREE access to our online CPD Academy

FREE Thrive training if you're not already qualified, helping you stand out to schools

A dedicated consultant who takes the time to understand your goals

Opportunities across SEND schools, Alternative Provisions (AP), Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) and mainstream schools

Long-term opportunities where you become part of the school community, not just cover for the day

Ongoing career development and access to a wide range of education roles

Make a real difference

The right support can change a young person's future.

As a Behaviour & Inclusion Support Worker, you'll help pupils rebuild confidence, develop positive relationships and rediscover a love of learning. Your patience, encouragement and consistency could be the reason a young person succeeds.

If you're ready to start a rewarding career supporting children and young people in Wakefield, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today or get in touch with our friendly team for an informal chat about the role.
