GDASS Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA)

37 hours per week

£30,553pa plus £750 care allowance

This is an independent, victim-focused role. You will provide practical and emotional support, identify risk, support safety planning, and work alongside partners and services to ensure victims are safeguarded effectively. You’ll also help shape safeguarding responses through clear, confident advocacy—especially when navigating complex legal and housing processes.

What you’ll do

* Provide specialist IDVA support to victims of domestic abuse, including those experiencing high-risk coercive control and multiple forms of harm.

* Undertake risk assessment and develop tailored safety plans that reflect each person’s circumstances, wishes, and needs.

* Advocate and support victims through key processes, including criminal justice pathways, multi-agency safeguarding arrangements, and housing interventions.

* Work effectively with professionals across health, police, housing, probation, children’s services, and community agencies to coordinate safe outcomes.

* Support reporting and engagement with the system—where appropriate—empowering victims to make informed choices.

* Manage complex cases with sensitivity, ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely updates on risk and safeguarding actions.

* Ensure confidentiality and informed consent, explaining options clearly and supporting victims to understand the implications of decisions.

* Deliver practical support that may include signposting to specialist services, helping with safety measures, and addressing immediate barriers to safety.

* Be a confident voice in multi-agency meetings and safeguarding forums, using evidence-based reasoning and a victim-first approach.
